Pharmacodynamics:
Sodium picosulfate is a laxative. It is hydrolyzed under the influence of intestinal microorganisms with the formation of active form which causes excitation of mucous membrane receptors of the large intestine and intensification of its peristalsis. The action comes within 10-12 hours after intake.
Pharmacokinetics:
After oral administration it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is not subjected to hepatic circulation.
Indications
Laxalen may be used in the following cases:
constipation due to atony and hypotonia of the large intestine
(i.e. decreased activity of peristalsis of the large intestine, including in the elderly, in bed-ridden patients, after operations, after childbirth, during breastfeeding);
constipation caused by taking medicines;
To regulate stool in hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures (to soften the consistency of the stool);
Ball bladder disease, irritable bowel syndrome with predominant constipation;
Post constipation due to colonic dysbacteriosis, violation of the diet.

Active ingredient:
Sodium picosulfate in terms of anhydrous substance 5 mg.
Excipients: Potato starch 27.64 mg, lactose monohydrate (milk sugar) 58.45 mg, povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone) 2.96 mg, magnesium stearate] 0.95 mg, Opadray II Yellow coating [polyvinyl alcohol, talc, macrogol (polyethylene glycol 3350), titanium dioxide, iron oxide yellow dye.
How to take, the dosage
Recommended dosage regimen:
For adults and children over 10 years
starting dosage of 1 tablet per day.
Maximum daily dosage – 2 tablets.
Or
The initial dosage is 10 drops per day.
The maximum daily dose is 20 drops.
Children should take sodium picosulfate only by prescription.
Children 4-10 years old
5-10 drops per day.
The maximum daily dose is 10 drops.
Children 0-4 years old
1 drop (0.5 mg of sodium picosulfate) per 2 kg of body weight per day.
In order to obtain the laxative effect in the morning the drug should be taken the night before.
To obtain a regular stool, the dose may be increased to the maximum recommended one. The maximum recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.
Interaction
An increased sensitivity to cardiac glycosides is possible. Glucocorticosteroids diuretics increase the risk of electrolyte disturbances.
The broad-spectrum antimicrobials reduce the effectiveness of sodium picosulfate.
Special Instructions
Do not use daily without medical supervision for more than 10 days. In children, use only if prescribed by a physician.
Influence on ability to drive:
Sodium picosulfate does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and perform work requiring high speed psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the drug components; lactase deficiency lactose intolerance glucose-galactose malabsorption; intestinal obstruction; strangulated hernia; acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity; peritonitis; abdominal pain (of unclear genesis); gastro-intestinal bleeding; metrorrhagia; cystitis; severe dehydration; spastic constipation; children under 10 years of age (for this dosage form children under 10 are recommended to take Slabilen in another dosage form – drops for oral administration); pregnancy (1st trimester).
With caution: II and III trimesters of pregnancy lactation.
Side effects
Diarrhea abdominal pain dehydration water-electrolyte imbalance weakness cramps decreased blood pressure.
Overdose
Symptoms: diarrhea dehydration decreased blood pressure impaired water-electrolyte balance seizures. In addition, in chronic overdose, development of colonic mucosal ischemia secondary hyperaldosteronism urinary stone disease renal tubules damage is possible.
Treatment: gastric lavage correction of water-electrolyte balance disorders spasmolytic agents.
Pregnancy use
There are no data on reliable and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Long experience with sodium picosulfate has not revealed any negative effect on pregnancy. The use of sodium picosulfate in the first trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated. It is possible to use the drug only by medical prescription in the II and III trimesters of pregnancy (as well as when using other laxatives).
The active metabolite and its glucuronides are not excreted with breast milk. This means that the drug can be used during breastfeeding.
