Marbofloxacin belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones and has a broad spectrum of bactericidal action based on inhibition of bacterial DNA replication.
Marbofloxacin is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Morganella morganii, Proteus spp, Klebsiella spp, Shigella spp, Pasteurella spp, Haemophilus spp, Moraxella spp, Pseudomonas spp, Brucella canis, Staphylococci, Streptococci and Mycoplasma spp. etc.
After oral administration of Marfloxin, marbofloxacin is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. Bioavailability is almost 100%.
Maximal concentration in blood is achieved within 2.0 hours, the period of semiejection is 14 hours in dogs, 10 hours in cats.
Marfloxacin tablets is eliminated from the body of animals mainly unchanged with urine and bile.
Marfloxin by degree of exposure to the body is low hazardous substances (Class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

Indications

Mexidol-Vet tablets (Tabulettae Mechidol – Vet) – a drug for the treatment and prevention of diseases of dogs and cats, accompanied by oxygen deficiency, high peroxide content, as well as for normalization of immunobiological resistance.

Composition

Marfloxin tablets as an active ingredient contains marbofloxacin 80 mg per tablet, and excipients – lactose monohydrate, povidone, crosspovidone, magnesium stearate, meat flavoring, hydrogenated castor oil, yeast powder, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide.

How to take, the dosage

The drug is administered to animals once a day individually in fragmented form with feed or injected by force on the tongue root at a daily dose of 2 mg/kg of body weight.
Duration of treatment of dogs in case of skin and soft tissue infections is 5 to 40 days, in case of urogenital system diseases – 10 to 28 days, respiratory system diseases – 7 to 21 days.
In overdose animals may show nervous system disorders. The drug treatment is symptomatic.
Peculiarities of the drug action during the first use and withdrawal have not been identified.
It is necessary to avoid skipping the next dose of the drug as it may lead to reduced therapeutic efficacy. In case of missing a dose, the drug is resumed in the same dosage and according to the same scheme.

Special Instructions

It is not recommended to use Marfloxin tablets simultaneously with cationic drugs (drugs of iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminum) due to possible reduction of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as with chloramphenicol, macrolide antibiotics and tetracycline.
Marfloxin is not intended for treatment of productive animals.
Personal precautions
When working with Marfloxin tablets the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions for working with drugs must be observed.
People with hypersensitivity to Marbofloxacin should avoid direct contact with the drug. In case of accidental contact of the drug with skin or mucous membranes it should be washed immediately with running water and soap. In case of allergic reactions and/or accidental ingestion of the drug in the human body you should immediately contact a medical facility (have the instructions for use of the drug or the label).
The package from under the used drug is placed in a plastic bag and disposed with household waste.

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the drug components.
Do not use the drug in kittens under 2 months, puppies under 12 months (puppies of large breeds – under 18 months), as well as animals with lesions of the central nervous system.

Side effects

When using the drug in the recommended dose no adverse effects in dogs and cats have been revealed. Gastrointestinal tract phenomena such as vomiting and softening of stools are possible, which pass after treatment and do not require discontinuation of the drug.
