Xylometazoline is an alpha-adrenergic stimulator, it narrows the blood vessels of the nasal cavity mucosa, eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucosa.
Easily eases nasal breathing in rhinitis.
The effect occurs within a few minutes and lasts for several hours.
Indications
- acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose);
- acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, pollinosis;
- .otitis media (as part of combined therapy to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosa edema);
- preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations (rhinoscopy).

Xylometazoline
Composition
1 ml of the solution contains:
Active substance:
xylometazoline hydrochloride – 1.0 mg;
Associates:
benzalkonium chloride – 0.15 mg,
disodium edetate dihydrate – 0.5 mg,
potassium dihydrophosphate – 3.63 mg,
sodium hydrophosphate dodecahydrate – 7.13 mg,
Sodium chloride – 7.0 mg,
Eucalyptus leaf oil – 0.5 mg,
sorbitol – 8.0 mg,
glycerol – 4.0 mg,
macrogoal glyceryl hydroxystearate – 3.4 mg,
purified water – up to 1 ml.
How to take, the dosage
Adults and children over 6 years of age: 1 injection of 0.1% xylometazoline solution in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.
Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day. Do not use the drug without a break for more than 3-5 days.
Interaction
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Special Instructions
Nasal passages should be cleaned before use.
Do not use for more than 7 days. Xylomethasoline generally has no effect on performance and does not interfere with driving motor vehicles or operating moving machinery.
In individual cases, frequent and/or prolonged use of the drug may result in adverse reactions that impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Contraindications
- High sensitivity to the drug’s components,
- arterial hypertension,
- tachycardia,
- expressive atherosclerosis,
- glaucomaglaucoma,
- atrophic rhinitis,
- thyrotoxicosis,
- cerebral surgery (history),
- children under 6 years of age.
- Do not use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants.
With caution: coronary heart disease (angina III-IV functional class), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes, pregnancy, lactation.
Side effects
In frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dry nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, paraesthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion; nasal mucosa edema, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, vomiting, headache, insomnia, visual disturbances; depression (with long-term use of high doses).
