Xylenes, spray 0.1% 10 ml

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic activity, causes narrowing of blood vessels of nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of nasal mucosa, restores nasal passageway, facilitates nasal breathing.

The action of the drug starts within a few minutes after its application and lasts up to 10 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is practically not absorbed when applied topically, so its concentration in the blood plasma is very low (not determined by modern analytical methods).

Indications

It is used in acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose), acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis media (as part of combined therapy to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosa edema), to facilitate rhinoscopy.

xylometazoline hydrochloride – 0.001 g.

Auxiliary substances:

benzalkonium chloride (in terms of anhydrous),

dinatrium edetate (trilon B),

potassium dihydrophosphate,

sodium hydrophosphate dodecahydrate,

sodium chloride,

purified water.

How to take, the dosage

Adults and children over 6 years of age are given 1-2 injections of 0.1% xylometazoline solution in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

For infants and children under 6 years of age 0.05% solution is used. The drug should not be used more than 3 times a day and not more than 3-5 days.

Do not use Xylen without a break for more than 3-5 days.

Interaction

Incompatible with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special Instructions

Should not be used for a long time, for example, in chronic rhinitis.

In colds where nasal crusts form, it is preferable to prescribe as a gel.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline and other components of the drug, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, marked atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, brain surgery (in anamnesis), pregnancy, lactation, children under 6 years for 0.1% solution (0.001 g/ml).

With caution: coronary heart disease (angina pectoris), diabetes mellitus, prostatic hyperplasia, hyperthyroidism, children under 2 years of age – for 0.05% solution (0.0005 g/ml).

Side effects

In frequent and/or prolonged use: mucosal irritation, burning, tingling, sneezing, dry nasal mucosa, hypersecretion.

Rarely: nasal mucous membrane swelling (more often with long-term use), palpitations, heart rhythm disorders, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, sleep disorders, visual disturbances.

In long-term use in high doses:depression.

Overdose

Symptoms: worsening of side effects.

Treatment: symptomatic under medical supervision.

Pregnancy use

In pregnancy and lactation, use only after careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and fetus, and do not exceed the recommended doses.
