How to take, the dosage
Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline or any of the excipients of the drug; Arterial hypertension; Tachycardia; Severe atherosclerosis; Glaucoma; Hyperthyroidism; Atrophic rhinitis; Inflammatory skin diseases or mucosa of the vestibule; Surgical interventions on the meninges (in anamnesis); Condition after transsphenoidal pituitaryectomy; Pregnancy; Use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (including 14 days after their withdrawal); Use of tricyclic or tetracyclic antidepressants; Childhood under 2 years old (for 0.05% solution); Childhood under 6 years old (for 0.1% solution).
With caution: Diabetes mellitus; Severe cardiovascular disease (incl. Coronary heart disease, angina pectoris); Prostatic hyperplasia; Pheochromocytoma; Porphyria; Breastfeeding period; Hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs, accompanied by insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor, increased blood pressure; Patients with prolonged QT interval syndrome.
Interaction
Xylometazoline is contraindicated in patients currently receiving MAO inhibitors or who have received them in the previous 2 weeks. Concomitant use of tri- or tetracyclic antidepressants and sympathomimetic drugs may increase the sympathomimetic effect of xylometazoline, so this combination should be avoided.
Special Instructions
The recommended doses should not be exceeded, especially in children and the elderly. Prolonged (more than 10 days) or excessive use of the drug may cause “ricochet” effect (rhinitis medica) and/or atrophy of the nasal mucosa. Patients with prolonged QT interval syndrome using xylometazoline may be at increased risk of developing serious ventricular arrhythmias. Benzalkonium chloride, which is part of the drug, may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles, machinery: The drug does not affect the ability to operate vehicles or equipment. When prolonged use in excess of the recommended doses we cannot exclude the possibility of its systemic effect. In such cases, caution should be exercised when driving vehicles or operating equipment.

Xylenum® drops 0,05% 10 ml is a vasoconstrictor based on xylometazoline for children from 2 to 6 years old for nasal breathing relief.

Side effects
Immune system: hypersensitivity reaction (angioedema, rash, itching). Nervous system disorders: headache. Mental disorders: insomnia, depression (with prolonged use in high doses). Organs of vision: impairment of clarity of visual perception. Cardiac disorders: palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia. Vascular disorders: increase in blood pressure. Respiratory system, thorax and mediastinum organs: nasal mucosa irritation and/or dryness, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion of nasopharyngeal mucosa, after using the drug increased nasal mucosal edema (reactive hyperemia), nasal bleeding may be observed. Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, vomiting. General disorders and reactions at the injection site: burning at the site of application.
Overdose
Xylomethasoline can cause severe dizziness, excessive local administration or accidental ingestion, increased sweating, rapid decrease in body temperature, headache, bradycardia, increased blood pressure, respiratory depression, coma and seizures. Following an increase in blood pressure, there may be a sudden drop in blood pressure. Appropriate supportive measures should be taken if there is any suspicion of overdose, in some cases immediate symptomatic treatment under medical supervision is indicated.
