Lecroin is an anti-allergic drug, it stabilizes mast cell membranes. It prevents mast cells degranulation and release of histamine, bradykinin, leukotrienes (including slow-reacting substance) and other biologically active substances.
The drug is most effective when used prophylactically.
In allergic eye disease, the full clinical effect is achieved after a few days or weeks of treatment with the drug.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption
When using eye drops absorption of sodium cromoglycate through the mucous membrane is negligible.
The systemic bioavailability is less than 0.1%.
Elimination
The T1/2 is 5-10 minutes.

Composition
The eye drops are in the form of a clear solution, colorless or slightly yellowish.

How to take, the dosage
Adults and children are prescribed 1-2 drops of Lecroline in the lower conjunctival sac of the affected eye 4 times a day.
Interaction
There have been no negative symptoms of interaction of cromoglicic acid with other drugs.
The use of cromoglycic acid may reduce the need for use of ophthalmic drugs containing GCS.
Special Instructions
The use of Lecrolin eye drops in patients with allergic conjunctivitis reduces the need for GCS.
Lecroline is not indicated for the treatment of bacterial or viral conjunctivitis.
Lecrolin eye drops, packaged in a dropper bottle, contain the preservative benzalkonium chloride. Therefore, patients who wear contact lenses should remove them before using the drops and put them back in no earlier than 15 minutes after injection.
Cytotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects of cromoglicic acid have not been found in experimental studies.
Impact on ability to drive and operate machinery
The drug does not affect the patient’s ability to engage in potentially hazardous activities requiring increased attention and quick psychomotor reactions.
Contraindications
Side effects
Eye: short-term pain and local irritation are possible.
The benzalkonium chloride in the eye drops packed in dropper bottles is moderately cytotoxic and may cause superficial corneal epithelial damage; blepharitis, eyelid dermatitis, conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis may also occur.
Overdose
In local application of the drug an overdose is unlikely. In experimental studies it has been shown that local and systemic toxicity of cromoglicic acid is very low.
Symptoms: nausea is possible.
Treatment: conducting symptomatic therapy.
Pregnancy use
The drug should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) and only when the anticipated benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or the infant.
Pediatric use
Contraindication: children under 4 years of age.
