Picloxidine is a derivative of biguanides, antimicrobial agent, has antiseptic effect.
Active against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Eberthella typhosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Shigella dysenteria, Bacillus subtilis, Chlamidia trachomatis; some viruses and fungi.
PHARMACOKINETICS
When administered topically systemic absorption of picloxidine is low.

Active ingredient
Picloxidine
Composition
1 ml of the solution contains:
Active ingredient – picloxidine dihydrochloride – 0.500 mg; corresponding to 0.434 mg of picloxidine;
excipients:
dextrose (glucose) anhydrous 50.00 mg,
polysorbate 800.25 mg,
purified water to 1 ml.
How to take, the dosage
For the treatment of bacterial infections, 1 drop of the drug is put into the conjunctival sac 2-6 times a day. The duration of treatment is 10 days. The reasonability and necessity of prolongation of the treatment period should be determined by a physician.
In postoperative period 1 drop of Vitabakt is drop into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times a day.
For prevention of postoperative complications (pre-operative preparation) 1-2 drops of the preparation is drop into the conjunctival sac immediately before surgical intervention
Interaction
If several medications need to be injected into the conjunctival sac, they should be applied separately with an interval of at least 15 minutes.
Special Instructions
Vitabact eye drops are produced in a sealed polyethylene bottle with a dropper, no dropper is required for their injection. To open the bottle the cap should be screwed to the stop, the spike on its inner side should pierce the dropper.
To put the eye drops the patient’s head should be tilted back slightly, the patient’s eyes should be directed upwards. The drug is injected into the lower conjunctival sac by gently pulling back the lower eyelid.
To prevent contamination of the drug solution when injecting the patients should avoid contact of the dropper tip with the eye and skin.
Vitabact eye drops should not be used for subconjunctival injections or injected into the anterior chamber of the eye.
Vitabact eye drops do not change the color of contact lenses (including soft hydrophilic ones), but in case of infectious eye diseases wearing contact lenses is contraindicated.
In case of vision loss during the drug treatment patients should refrain from driving vehicles and operating machinery.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the drug components.
Since the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been studied, Vitabact® is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women.
Side effects
In rare cases, allergic reactions may develop, manifested by conjunctival hyperemia.
Pregnancy use
Since there are no data confirming the safety of Vitabact during pregnancy and lactation, its use is possible only when the benefit to the mother exceeds the risk to the fetus or child.
