Ciprofloxacin is an antimicrobial drug from the group of fluoroquinolones with a broad spectrum of antibacterial action and bactericidal effect. The drug inhibits bacterial DNA-gyrase enzyme, which disrupts DNA replication and synthesis of bacterial cell proteins. Ciprofloxacin acts both on multiplying microorganisms and on those in a quiescent stage.

The spectrum of antibacterial action of ciprofloxacin includes Gram-negative microorganisms: Esherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp. (indole positive and indole negative), Morganella morganii, Citrobacter spp, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Vibrio spp., Campylobacter spp., Hafnia spp., Providencia stuartii, Haemophilus influenzae, Pasteurella multocida, Pseudomonas spp., Gardnerella spp., Legionella pneumophila, Neisseria spp., Moraxella catarrhalis, Acinetobacter spp., Brucella spp., Chlamidia spp. Gram-positive microorganisms are also sensitive to ciprofloxacin: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus pyogenes, St. agalactiae, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Listeria monocitogenes. The drug is slightly toxic.

Indications

The treatment of acute and chronic infectious diseases of the ear: external otitis media; acute and chronic otitis media.

Prevention of infectious otitis before and after surgical interventions, ear trauma, removal of foreign body from the external auditory canal with ear tissue damage.

How to take, the dosage

Before using the drug, the external auditory canal should be sanitized (the auditory canal should be rinsed and dried). The drug is injected into the external auditory canal 5 drops 3 times a day. The drops should be warmed to body temperature.

After symptoms of the disease disappear, treatment should be continued for 48 hours.

Maintain the head tilted back for 2 minutes after the drops are placed. A cotton turunda may be placed in the external auditory canal.

Interaction

Ciprofloxacin is incompatible with drugs with pH=3-4, which are physically and chemically unstable.

Side effects

In some cases, allergic reactions may occur.

Overdose

There have been no cases of overdose with the use of ear drops.

In accidental ingestion there are no specific symptoms, possibly nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, anxiety.

Treatment: ensure adequate fluid intake, maintain an acidic urine reaction to prevent crystalluria. If necessary, symptomatic therapy is carried out.

Pregnancy use

It is contraindicated in pregnancy. Breastfeeding should be stopped during treatment.
