Streptocide soluble, liniment 5% 30 g

Streptocid is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Sulfonamide (streptocid) is one of the first representatives of the chemotherapeutic agents of the sulfonamide group.

It has a bacteriostatic effect. Mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase enzyme.

This leads to disruption of dihydrofolic acid and then tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis and as a result to disruption of nucleic acid synthesis.

Sulfanilamide is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp, Vibrio cholerae, Haemophilus influenzae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, as well as against Chlamydia spp.

Indications

infected wounds of various etiologies,
burns of the 1st and 2nd degree,
superficial pyoderma,
boils,
carbuncles,
acne vulgaris,
impetigo and other purulent-inflammatory skin diseases.

Special instructions

When treating extensive skin lesions, drinking plenty of alkaline fluids is recommended.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or engage in potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Composition

1 g of liniment contains:

Active substance:

Sodium sulfanilamide (soluble streptocide) – 0.05 g (in terms of 100% substance);

Excipients:

Glycerol (distilled glycerin) – 0.30 g,

Emulsifier No. 1 (Lanette® SX) – 0.080 g,

Water (purified water) – up to 1 g.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, anemia, renal/liver failure, congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, azotemia, porphyria, pregnancy, lactation.

With caution
Children up to 3 months of age.

Side Effects

From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

From the hematopoietic system: rarely – eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hypoprothrombinemia, agranulocytosis.

From the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: in isolated cases – blurred vision, headache, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia.

Other: allergic skin reactions; rarely – nephrotoxic reactions (most likely in patients with impaired renal function); in isolated cases – hypothyroidism.

Interaction

Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of hematotoxicity of the drug.

Overdose

Symptoms:

nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, blurred vision, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; with prolonged overdose – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice.

Treatment:

drinking plenty of water; in case of accidental ingestion of ointment and powder, gastric lavage is required.

Each tube, along with instructions for medical use of the drug, is placed in a cardboard pack.

Storage conditions

At a temperature not higher than 25˚С.

Shelf life

4 years. Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.
