Streptocide soluble, liniment 5% 30 g

Streptocid is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Sulfonamide (streptocid) is one of the first representatives of the chemotherapeutic agents of the sulfonamide group.

It has a bacteriostatic effect. Mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase enzyme.

This leads to disruption of dihydrofolic acid and then tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis and as a result to disruption of nucleic acid synthesis.

Sulfanilamide is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp, Vibrio cholerae, Haemophilus influenzae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, as well as against Chlamydia spp.

Contraindications

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Hematopoietic system disorders: rarely – eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hypoprothrombinemia, agranulocytosis.

CNS and peripheral nervous system: in single cases – visual impairment, headache, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia.

Others: skin allergic reactions; rarely – nephrotoxic reactions (most likely in patients with renal dysfunction); hypothyroidism in single cases.

Overdose

Symptoms:

Nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, visual disturbance, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; in prolonged overdose, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice.

Treatment:

Healthy drinking; in case of accidental ingestion of ointment and powder – gastric lavage.
