Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics

Selank® is a synthesized analogue of the endogenous peptide taftzin and has an original mechanism of neurospecific action on the central nervous system.

Selank® has an anti-anxiety action with antidepressant effect; antiasthenic action.

It relieves symptoms of anxiety, worry, fear, apathy, depression and asthenia.

It has a positive effect on cognitive functions, improves memory, speech, increases attention, stimulates learning processes, in particular the memorization, analysis and reproduction of information. It normalizes psychomotor reactions.

In cases of stress, Selank® eliminates the emotional and negative tension and stimulates the development of adaptive behavior aimed at achieving beneficial results.

Pharmacokinetics

Selank® is administered intranasally (nasal drops). Absolute bioavailability of Selank® when administered to the nasal mucosa is 92.8%. The drug is quickly absorbed from the nasal mucosa and after 30 seconds is detected in blood plasma, and then rapidly distributed to various organs and tissues. It penetrates into brain tissues. The plasma concentration decreases progressively within 5-5.5 minutes. In daily urine no unchanged drug or metabolites are determined due to rapid degradation of Selank® under the influence of tissue peptidases.

• neurasthenia;

• sleep disturbances;

• decreased willpower, initiation of activities, indecisiveness, difficulty making decisions, insecurity;

• Uncertainty in communication;

• adaptation disorders;

Prevention and treatment of stress disorders.

How to take, the dosage

Selank® is administered intranasally using a bottle with a plastic screw cap or a dropper cap.

If the bottle is sealed with a plastic screw cap, remove the plastic screw cap on initial use and replace it with the supplied cap pipette.

Pump the product into the pipette.

Push the desired amount of drops of product into a clean nasal passage, then use a finger to clamp the nostril briefly.

If the bottle is sealed with a dropper cap, carefully cut off the tip of the dropper and close the dropper tightly with the cap. Turn the bottle upside down so that the liquid fills all the space of the pipette before use. Remove the cap. Squeeze the necessary amount of drops of the drug onto clean nasal mucosa, and then use a finger to clamp the nostril for a short time.

Push the product into the nasal passages while sitting with the head slightly tilted or bowed, then use a finger to squeeze each nostril briefly.

Efficiency of suction may be reduced if there is increased nasal mucosal secretion, so it is recommended that the nasal passage be cleared before application (inoculation).

Dose: 2 drops in each nostril 3 times a day.

The duration of the course of treatment is 14 days. If necessary the course of treatment may be repeated after 1 to 3 weeks after physician’s consultation.

Interaction

Selank® has no effect on the effects of central nervous system depressants and stimulants such as haloperidol, pentobarbital, hexobarbital, analeptics.

Celank® can be combined with any psycho- and neuroactive therapy.

Celank® is safe when used together with ethanol-containing medications.

If you are taking any other medications (including over-the-counter medications), talk to your doctor before taking Selank®.

Special Instructions

Impact on ability to operate vehicles and other mechanisms requiring increased attention

The lack of hypnosedative and muscle relaxant properties of the drug and the presence of positive effects on cognitive functions allow the use of Selank in various professions, including those requiring increased attention and coordination of movements (drivers of vehicles, operators).

Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the drug.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding (efficacy and safety studies have not been conducted).

Children under 18 years of age (efficacy and safety studies have not been conducted).

Side effects

In case of hypersensitivity to the perception of odor and taste at contact of the drug from the nasal cavity with the pharyngeal mucosa, unpleasant taste sensations may occur. Allergic reactions may develop with individual intolerance.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported with Selank®.

Pregnancy use

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
