Nystatin is fungistatic.

Binding with sterols in the cell wall of fungi, it violates its permeability, which leads to the release of the main components of the cell.

It is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida, including Candida albicans. It does not have cumulative properties.

Pharmacokinetics

Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

The bulk of the drug taken orally is excreted in the feces. It is not absorbed through the mucous membranes when administered topically.

How to take, the dosage

Suppositories are injected deep into the rectum with 1 suppository 2 times a day (morning and evening). The course of treatment is 10-14 days.

Repeated courses of treatment are carried out if necessary.

Contraindications

• liver function disorders;
• pancreatitis;
• peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum;
• pregnancy;
• high sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea are possible when taking the drug orally and when using rectal suppositories.

Allergic reactions: skin itching, chills, fever.

Others: there may be a risk of spreading resistant forms of fungi, which requires withdrawal of the drug.
