A polyene antifungal antibiotic highly active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida.

The structure of the antibiotic has double bonds with high affinity to sterol structures of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungi, which promotes incorporation of the drug molecule into the cell membrane and formation of large number of channels through which uncontrolled transport of electrolytes occurs; increase of osmolarity inside the cell leads to its death.

Resistance develops very slowly.

Indications

Treatment and prevention (with long-term treatment with drugs of the penicillin and tetracycline series, chloramphenicol, etc.) candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract.

The prevention of fungal lesions in the pre- and postoperative periods during surgical interventions on the gastrointestinal tract.

Active ingredient

Composition

Each tablet contains:

The active ingredient – nystatin – 500000 IU;

Associates:

Potato starch,

lactose monohydrate,

stearic acid,

talc, gelatin,

opadray II (including: polyvinyl alcohol partially hydrolyzed, talc, macrogol 3350, lecithin (soybean), yellow coloring pigment (contains titanium dioxide E 171, indigo carmine E 132, and quinoline yellow E 104)), vanillin.

How to take, the dosage

To be taken by mouth, regardless of meals. The tablets are swallowed without chewing.

Adults are prescribed 500,000 units 3 to 4 times a day. The daily dose is 1500000 to 3000000 IU, in severe cases – up to 4000000 to 6000000 IU.

Children over 13 years of age – 500,000 IU 3 to 4 times a day.

The duration of treatment is 10 – 14 days.

In chronic recurrent and generalized candidiasis repeated courses with 2 to 3 week intervals are given.

This dosage form is not suitable for children under 13 years of age. Suspension should be intended for patients in this age group.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, chills, allergic reactions.

Overdose

Periods of overdose when using the drug have not yet been described.
