Miramistin® has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, including hospital strains resistant to antibiotics.
The drug has a pronounced bactericidal effect against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp, Streptococcus pneumoniae, etc.), gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. etc.), aerobic and anaerobic bacteria determined as monocultures and microbial associations, including hospital strains with multiresistance to antibiotics.
It has antifungal effect on ascomycetes of Aspergillus and Penicillium genus, yeasts (Rhodotorula rubra, Torulopsis gabrata etc.) and yeast-like fungi (Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Pityrosporum orbiculare (Malassezia furfur) etc.), dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton schoenleini, Trichophyton violacent, Epidermophyton Kaufman-Wolf, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum gypseum, Microsporum canis, etc.), as well as other pathogenic fungi, in the form of monocultures and microbial associations, including fungal microflora with resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs.
It has antiviral action and is active against complex viruses (herpes viruses, human immunodeficiency virus and others).
Miramistin® is active against sexually transmitted pathogens (Chlamydia spp., Treponema spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, etc.).
Effectively prevents infection of wounds and burns. Activates the regeneration processes. Stimulates the protective reactions at the application site by activating the absorptive and digestive function of phagocytes and potentiates the activity of the monocytic-macrophage system. It has a pronounced hyperosmolar activity, as a result of which it stops wound and perifocal inflammation, absorbs purulent exudate, contributing to the formation of a dry crust. It does not damage granulation and viable skin cells and does not suppress marginal epithelization.
It does not have a local irritant and allergic properties.
Pharmacokinetics
When used topically, miramistine has no ability to be absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes.
Indications
Surgery, traumatology: prevention of suppuration and treatment of purulent wounds. Treatment of purulent inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system.
Obstetrics, gynecology: prevention and treatment of suppuration of postpartum injuries, perineum and vaginal wounds, postpartum infections, inflammatory diseases (vulvovaginitis, endometritis).
Combustiology: treatment of superficial and deep burns of II and IIIA degree, preparation of burn wounds for dermatoplasty.
Dermatology, venereology: treatment and prevention of pyoderma and dermatomycosis, candidiasis of skin and mucous membranes, foot mycosis.
Individual prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, genital herpes, genital candidiasis).
Urology: complex treatment of acute and chronic urethritis and urethroprostatitis of specific (chlamydia, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea) and nonspecific nature.
Dentistry: treatment and prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity: stomatitis, gingivitis, periodontitis, periodontitis. Hygienic treatment of removable dentures.
Otorhinolaryngology: comprehensive treatment of acute and chronic otitis, maxillitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis.
In children aged 3-14 years old it is used for the complex treatment of acute pharyngitis and/or acute exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis.

How to take, the dosage
In treatment of purulent wounds and burns the application of gauze dressings moistened with the drug solution is prescribed.
In the treatment of acute and chronic urethritis and urethroprostatitis it is prescribed in combination with other drugs. The solution is injected into the urethra in the volume of 2-5 ml 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days.
To prevent infection of postpartum trauma the drug is administered intravaginally with tampons soaked in 50 ml of the solution with exposure of 2 hours for 7 days.
For prevention of sexually transmitted diseases the solution is applied in the urethra for men 1.5-3 ml, in women 1-1.5 ml; in the vagina – 5-10 ml for 2-3 minutes; the external genitalia and pubic skin are treated.
Interaction
When used concomitantly with antibiotics, an increase in their antibacterial and antifungal properties has been noted.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance to the drug.
Side effects
In some cases, a slight burning sensation may occur at the injection site, which disappears on its own after 15-20 seconds and does not require withdrawal of the drug.
