Magnesium is a vital element that is found in all body tissues and is necessary for the normal functioning of cells and is involved in most metabolic reactions. In particular, it is involved in the regulation of nerve impulse transmission and muscle contraction. The body gets magnesium with food.
Deficiency of magnesium in the body may be observed in violation of diet (diet) or increased demand for magnesium (with increased physical and mental stress, pregnancy, use of diuretics). Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) is involved in many metabolic processes, in the regulation of metabolism of the nervous system. Vitamin B6 improves the absorption of magnesium from the gastrointestinal tract and its penetration into cells.
The serum magnesium content:
- 12 to 17 mg/L (0.5 to 0.7 mmol/L) indicates moderate magnesium deficiency;
- below 12 mg/L (0.5 mmol/L) indicates severe magnesium deficiency.
Pharmacokinetics
Magnesium absorption in the gastrointestinal tract is no more than 50% of the oral dose. 99% of magnesium in the body is inside the cells.
Approximately 2/3 of intracellular magnesium is distributed in bone tissue, and the other 1/3 is in smooth and transverse striated muscle tissue. Magnesium is excreted mainly in the urine. At least 1/3 of the administered dose of magnesium is excreted with urine.
Indications
Magne B6® is taken by adults and children from 1 year of age and older to replenish established magnesium deficiency, isolated or associated with other deficiency conditions, accompanied by symptoms such as:
increased irritability, minor sleep disturbances; gastrointestinal cramps or rapid heartbeat;
increased fatigue, pain and muscle spasms, tingling sensation in the muscles.
If there is no improvement or you feel worse, you should consult a doctor.
Special instructions
Driving vehicles and working with machinery
Magne B6® does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
Magne B6® contains sulfite
The oral solution contains sulfite, which can rarely cause or intensify allergic reactions, including hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylactic reactions, including bronchospasm, especially in patients at risk.
Active ingredient
Magnesium, Pyridoxine
Composition
Active ingredients: magnesium + pyridoxine
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before starting to take the drug.
Pregnancy
Magne B6® can be taken during pregnancy only if necessary and on the recommendation of a doctor.
Breastfeeding
Magnesium passes into breast milk; if it is necessary to take the drug, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding.
Contraindications
Do not take Magne B6® if:
• you are allergic to magnesium (as lactate dihydrate), magnesium (as pidolate), pyridoxine (as hydrochloride) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6 of the leaflet);
• you have severe renal impairment (severe renal failure – creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/minute);
• You are taking levodopa at the same time.
Do not give Magne B6®, oral solution, to children under 1 year of age.
Special instructions and precautions
Before taking Magne B6®, consult your doctor.
This is especially important if:
• you have reduced kidney function (moderate renal failure);
• you have severe magnesium deficiency or a chronic disease in which food is poorly digested (malabsorption syndrome). It is recommended to begin treatment with intravenous administration of magnesium preparations;
• you have hypersensitivity reactions or irritation of the mucous membrane. Magne B6® oral solution contains sodium disulfite, which may cause these reactions. In this case, you should refrain from taking this dosage form and replace it with tablets.
• you have calcium deficiency. It is recommended to correct magnesium deficiency before taking calcium supplements or calcium supplements.
It is not recommended to take vitamin B6 in high doses for a long time (several months or years), as this can lead to disruption of nerve sensitivity. Symptoms: numbness, perception disorder, tremor, lack of coordination. If these symptoms occur, you should stop taking vitamin B6.
Children
Do not give Magne B6®, oral solution, to children under 1 year of age.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Magne B6® can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Frequency unknown (the incidence of adverse reactions cannot be determined based on available data):
• hypersensitivity reactions, allergic reactions, including bronchospasm;
• skin reactions (urticaria, itching);
• diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Interaction
Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken, or may start taking any other medications.
Do not take Magne B6® with the following medicines as this may reduce its effect, for example:
• with levodopa;
• with preparations containing phosphates, calcium salts or iron ions;
• with tetracyclines (for oral administration);
• with quinolones.
Overdose
If you have taken more Magne B6® than you should, or if children have taken it accidentally, you should always contact your doctor or nearest hospital to have the risk assessed and advised on what to do next.
Symptoms of overdose, the severity of which depends on the concentration of magnesium in the blood: decreased blood pressure; nausea, vomiting; depression of the central nervous system, decreased reflexes; changes in the electrocardiogram; in very rare cases, respiratory failure, coma, cardiac arrest; disturbance of urination (anuric syndrome).
With normal renal function, an overdose of magnesium when taken orally usually does not lead to toxic reactions. However, if kidney function is impaired, magnesium poisoning may develop.
Treatment: rehydration, forced diuresis. For renal failure, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary
