Ichthyol ointment 10% 25 g

Anti-inflammatory agent has antimicrobial (bactericidal against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes) keratoplastic effect.

It accelerates the maturation of boils.

In case of direct action on the skin it causes slight irritation of the sensitive nerve endings changing their sensitivity which leads to occurrence of reflexes changing tissue trophicity. Causes denaturation of protein molecules.

Pharmacokinetics:

After application to intact skin under the occlusive dressing is slowly absorbed. Systemic absorption is 5-10%. Under absorption, a portion of the thiophenolic components of ichthammol is excreted into the bile and excreted from the body by the intestine.

Indications

Erysipelas, eczema, pyoderma (including furunculosis).

Special instructions

The ointment is intended for external use only and is not recommended for use on open wounds.

Do not allow the ointment to come into contact with mucous membranes or eyes.

After applying the ointment, you must wash your hands thoroughly to prevent the ointment from getting into your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Ichthammol

Composition

100 g of ointment with a concentration of the active substance of 10% contains the active substance: ichthyol (ichthammol) – 10.0 g.

Excipients: Vaseline – 90.0 g.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the drug is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus or child.

Hypersensitivity to ichthammol or other components of the drug.

Interaction

Incompatible with solutions of iodine salts, alkaloids, heavy metal salts, and zinc oxide.

Dimethyl sulfoxide ethanol glycerol, when applied simultaneously with ichthammol, enhances its systemic absorption and increases the depth of its penetration into soft tissues.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms are not described.

Treatment is symptomatic.
