Pharmacodynamics

The spectrum of action of gopanthenic acid is due to the presence of gamma-aminobutyric acid in its structure. The mechanism of action is due to the direct effect of the drug on GABA_B-receptor-channel complex. The drug has nootropic and anticonvulsant effects. It increases resistance of the brain to hypoxia and toxic substances, stimulates anabolic processes in neurons, combines a moderate sedative effect with a mild stimulating effect, reduces motor excitability, and activates mental and physical performance. Improves GABA metabolism in chronic alcohol intoxication and after ethanol withdrawal. It is able to inhibit acetylation reactions involved in the mechanisms of inactivation of procaine (novocaine) and sulfonamides, thus prolonging the action of the latter. It causes inhibition of pathologically increased bladder reflex and detrusor tone.

Pharmacokinetics

Gopanthenic acid is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, penetrates through the blood-brain barrier, the highest concentrations are formed in the liver, kidneys, gastric wall and skin. The drug is not metabolized and is excreted unchanged within 48 hours:
67.5% of the administered dose – in the urine, 28.5% – in the faeces.

magnesium hydroxycarbonate pentahydrate (magnesium carbonate basic aqueous) – 80.2 mg,

talk – 18.6 mg;

calcium stearate – 6.2 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Overly, 15-30 minutes after a meal.

A single dose for adults is usually 250 – 1000 mg, for children – 250-500 mg; a daily dose for adults – 1500 mg to 3000 mg, for children – from
750 mg to 3000 mg. The course of treatment is from 1 to 4 months, in some cases up to 6 months. In 3 to 6 months it is possible to repeat the course of treatment.

In cognitive disorders with organic brain lesions, including consequences of neuroinfections and craniocerebral trauma, and neurotic disorders: 250 mg 3-4 times a day.

In extrapyramidal hyperkinesias in patients with hereditary diseases of the nervous system in combination with the current therapy: in dosage from 500 mg to 3000 mg per day. The course of treatment is up to 4 months or more.

As a corrector in case of side effects of neuroleptic agents, in neuroleptic extrapyramidal syndrome (hyperkinetic and akinetic), in complex therapy in cerebral organic failure in patients with schizophrenia: to adults – in dose from 500 mg to 1000 mg 3 times a day; to children – in dose from 250 mg to 500 mg 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 1-3 months.

In epilepsy with mental retardation in combination therapy with anticonvulsants: adults – in dosage from 500 mg to 1000 mg 3 times daily; children – in dosage from 250 mg to 500 mg 3-4 times daily. The course of treatment is up to 6 months.

In case of psycho-emotional overload and decreased mental and physical performance, to improve concentration and memory: 250 mg 3 times a day.

In case of neurogenic disorders of urination: adults: in dosage from
500 mg to 1000 mg 2-3 times a day; children: in dosage from 250 mg to 500 mg 3 times a day (the daily dose is 25-50 mg/kg). The course of treatment is 1-3 months.

In children with various pathologies of the nervous system, depending on the age, the drug is recommended to take up to 3000 mg per day. The tactics of administration of the drug: dose increase within 7-12 days, intake at maximum dose for 15-40 days and gradual dose decrease up to withdrawal of Gopantenic acid within 7-8 days. As with any other nootropic medication, the break between doses of Gopantenic Acid is 1 to 3 months.

In children with developmental delays: 500 mg 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 2-3 months.

Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: depending on body weight, the drug is prescribed in the average therapeutic dose of 30 mg/kg/day, morning and afternoon, with titration of the dose during the first 5-7 days. The course of treatment is 3-4 months.

Children with neurosis-like conditions .(tics; stuttering, preferably in the tonic form): at a dose of 250 mg to 500 mg 3-6 times a day. The course of treatment is 1-4 months.

In view of the nootropic effect of the drug, its administration is preferably done in the morning and afternoon hours (before 5 pm).

The drug is used in children over 3 years old. In younger younger we recommend taking the drug as a syrup.

In long-term treatment, concomitant administration of the drug with other nootropic and stimulant drugs is not recommended.

Impact on driving and operating machinery

In the first days of taking the drug, caution should be exercised when driving and operating machinery, given the possible occurrence of drowsiness.

Side effects

The undesired reactions presented below are listed according to organ and system involvement and frequency of occurrence. Disorders of the immune system.

Very rare: allergic reactions (rhinitis, conjunctivitis, skin allergic reactions).

Psychiatric disorders.

Very rare: lethargy, lethargy, sleep disturbances, drowsiness.
