Pharmacological properties PharmacodynamicsPharmacodynamics
Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. It is highly active in vitro against Herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2. Low toxicity to mammalian host cells. After entering the cells infected with herpes virus, acyclovir is phosphorylated to the active compound – acyclovir triphosphate. The first step of this process depends on the presence of the HSV-encoded thymidine kinase enzyme. Acyclovir triphosphate acts as an inhibitor and substrate of herpes-specific DNA polymerase, preventing further synthesis of viral DNA while not affecting normal cellular processes.
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacological studies have shown minimal systemic absorption with repeated external use of the cream.

How to take, the dosage
For external use only.
Please only use the product according to the indication, route of administration and dosage listed in the instructions.
Adults and children
The product is recommended 5 times a day, about every 4 hours, except at night, on the affected areas and their edges. It is important to start treatment as early as possible, preferably at the onset of the first signs and symptoms (in the prodromal period or when there is redness). Treatment can also be started at later stages (papule or blister).
The duration of treatment is at least 4 days. If there is no healing, treatment may be continued for up to 10 days. If symptoms persist for more than 10 days, a doctor should be consulted.
In order to prevent a worsening of the condition and to prevent the spread of infection, it is necessary to wash hands before and after application of the drug, do not rub or touch the affected areas of the skin with a towel.
Interaction
Special Instructions
The product should only be used for herpes of the skin of the lips and face. It is not recommended to apply to the mucous membranes of the mouth, eyes and vagina. Do not use for the treatment of genital herpes. Avoid getting the cream in the eyes.
When signs of recurrent herpes are severe, it is recommended to consult a physician.
Patients with herpes of the lips should avoid transmitting the virus, particularly if there are active lesions.
Patients with immunodeficiency conditions are not recommended to use the product. Such patients should follow their physician’s recommendations when treating any infectious disease.
Patients with renal and hepatic impairment
While acyclovir is mostly excreted by the kidneys, systemic absorption of acyclovir after external administration is insignificant. Accordingly, there is no need for dose changes in patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction.
Influence on the ability to drive and operate vehicles
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or engage in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions.

Side effects
Classification of the frequency of side effects according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO):
very frequently ⥠1/10;
frequently from ⥠1/100 to < 1/10;
infrequently from ⥠1/1000 to < 1/100;
rarely from ⥠1/10000 to < 1/1000;
very rarely < 1/10000, including individual reports;
frequency is unknown – it is not possible to determine the frequency of occurrence from the available data.
Immune system disorders:
very rare – immediate hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema, urticaria.
If you have side effects mentioned in the instructions or they are aggravated, or you notice any other side effects not specified in the instructions, you should immediately inform your doctor.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders:
infrequent – transient burning, tingling at the application sites, slight dryness or flaking of the skin, itching;
rarely – redness, contact dermatitis after application, often associated with a reaction to excipients than to acyclovir.
Overdose
Pregnancy use
Pregnancy
The use is possible only when the intended benefit exceeds the potential and unknown risk, but the systemic exposure when the cream is applied topically is very low.
Post-registration experience with acyclovir has yielded data with information on pregnancy outcomes in women who received acyclovir in any dosage form. The data show no increase in birth defects among patients treated with acyclovir compared to the general population, and no birth defects were reported that were unique or characterized by a consistent set of features suggestive of a common cause.
Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, or anticipate that you might be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, while breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding period
Limited data show that acyclovir passes into breast milk with regular use. However, the dose a breastfed infant receives will be negligible.
