How to take, the dosage
In adults and children, eye ointment in the form of a 1 cm strip is placed in the lower conjunctival sac 5 times a day (every 4 hours) until healing.
The treatment is continued for another 3 days after healing.
Interaction
The use together with immunostimulants increases the effect of acyclovir.
Special Instructions
The treatment will be more effective the earlier it is started (at the first signs of infection).
Wearing contact lenses is not recommended during treatment with acyclovir eye ointment.
The condition of the body’s immune system is important for the therapeutic effect of acyclovir. Patients with reduced immunity against topical administration of acyclovir ointment should be given systemic administration of the drug, as well as in case of severe and recurrent herpes infection.
Impact on the ability to drive and operate machinery
After using the drug there may be a temporary decrease in the clarity of vision, and until its recovery it is not recommended to drive and engage in activities requiring increased attention and reaction
Contraindications
Side effects
Side effects are given according to the frequency of occurrence in clinical trials: very common (>10%); common (>1% and <10%); infrequent (>0.1% and <1%); rare (>0.01% and <0.1%); very rare (<0.01%).
Allergic reactions: very rare – immediate hypersensitivity reactions (including angioedema).
An organ of vision: infrequent – pitting superficial keratopathy (does not require discontinuation of treatment and disappears without consequences); often – mild burning (which subsides with time); infrequent – conjunctivitis; rarely – blepharitis.
Overdose
Overdose is possible in case of accidental swallowing.
Symptoms: headache, neurological disorders, dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired renal function, lethargy, seizures, coma.
Treatment: maintenance of vital functions, hemodialysis.
Pregnancy use
The use of the drug in pregnancy is possible only when the estimated benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.
Acyclovir penetrates the placental barrier and accumulates in breast milk. If it is necessary to take acyclovir during lactation, interruption of breastfeeding is required.
