Vetmedin® is a modern drug for the treatment of heart disease in dogs.

Indications

Vetmedin® is indicated in dogs for the treatment of heart failure caused by dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP), mitral valve endocardiosis in the asymptomatic and clinical stages of the disease, and tricuspid valve endocardiosis in the clinical stage.

It is the only drug with an indication for therapy of canine mitral valve endocardiosis in the asymptomatic stage according to the GRLSVP of 11/01/2009.

How to take, the dosage

Vetmedin® is fed to dogs 1 hour before feeding. The dose of the drug is prescribed by the veterinarian depending on the severity of the course of the disease and the condition of the animal. A daily dose of the active ingredient pimobendine shall be 0.2 to 0.6 mg per 1 kg of body weight of the animal and shall be divided into two doses. For more accurate determination of the dose corresponding to the weight of the animal, the tablet may be divided into halves along the break line.
In congestive heart failure dogs are used for life with selection of individual dose. It is necessary to avoid skipping next dose of the drug because it may reduce its effectiveness. If one dose is missed, the drug is resumed in the same dose and according to the same regimen.

The recommended dose to achieve clinical benefit is 0.5 mg/kg of body weight per day.
