Mexidol-Vet tablets have pronounced antioxidant, antihypoxic and membrane-protective properties, increase the body’s resistance to various damaging factors to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia and ischemia, disorders of cerebral circulation). The drug improves the metabolism of brain tissues and their blood supply, stabilizes the membrane structures of blood cells (red blood cells and platelets), improves microcirculation and blood rheological properties, reduces platelet aggregation. With a hypolipidemic effect, it reduces the content of total cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins.  The mechanism of action of Mexidol-Vet consists in the ability to cause enhanced compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle in hypoxia with an increase in ATP and creatine phosphate; activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria.  Mexidol-Vet inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases superoxide dismutase activity, modulates the activity of membrane enzymes and receptor complexes, improving synaptic transmission and mediator transport.  When administered orally, Mexidol-Vet is quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal. It is excreted with urine, mainly in glucuron-conjugated form.

Indications

Treatment of bacterial infections of cattle, cattle, pigs, dogs, cats and poultry localized in the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract, caused by microorganisms sensitive to lincomycin and spectinomycin, such as Campylobacter, E. coli, mycoplasma, salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, and treponema bacteria.

Composition

Ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate (mexidol) 125 mg Excipients: lactose – 33 mg, povidone medium molecular – 15 mg, crosspovidone – 6 mg, colloidal silica – 6 mg, magnesium stearate – 3 mg, microcrystalline cellulose – to 300 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Mexidol-Vet tablets are prescribed for dogs and cats with therapeutic and prophylactic purposes alone and in combination therapy for the following indications: in acute and chronic cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency; for the prevention of anesthesia and postnarcosis complications, in the post-traumatic and postoperative periods, including craniocerebral injuries; in case of skin pathologies (dermatitis, eczema, trophic ulcers, wounds) to improve the condition of the skin and hair; in periods of extreme stress associated with adaptation of animals to new conditions (transportation, participation in exhibitions and competitions); in cases of exogenous and organic brain diseases (as a result of neuroinfections), acute violations of cerebral circulation, epilepsy, episyndrome, craniocerebral injuries; in veterinary geriatrics for age-related disorders of body functions (sluggish chronic diseases, neurodermatitis, dermatitis associated with disorders of peripheral circulation). Mexidol-Vet tablets are administered orally to dogs and cats after feeding in a therapeutic dose 2-3 times a day. The therapeutic dose depends on the severity of the clinical condition of the animal: during the acute phase of the disease, the therapeutic dose is 10-15 mg/kg, then it is reduced to 5.0-7.5 mg/kg of animal weight. In therapy of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency, Mexidol-Vet tablets are used at a dose of 10-15 mg/kg of animal weight 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days, then the drug dose is reduced by half and used for 10-14 days. In chronic pathology to maintain therapeutic effect is recommended periodic administration of the drug 2-4 times a year by courses of 3 weeks at 5.0-7.5 mg/kg of animal weight 2 times a day. In order to prevent anesthesia and postnarcosis complications Mexidol-Vet tablets are administered for 2-3 days before and within 2-3 days after surgery 2 times a day in a therapeutic dose. In transportation, participation in exhibitions and competitions Mexidol-Vet tablets are administered in a therapeutic dose 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days before the proposed event. As a therapeutic and prophylactic agent in veterinary geriatrics (“Care of elderly animals”) Mexidol-Vet tablets are used in dogs and cats older than 7 years 2 times a day at 5 mg / kg of weight for 15-30 days. The course is repeated in 3-4 months. The dose, duration and number of times the drug is determined by the attending veterinarian depending on the physiological state of the animal and the course of the disease. In severe pathological states of the animal the use of the drug begins with parenteral administration of Mexidol-Vet solution for injections with subsequent transition to oral administration of Mexidol-Vet tablets. The use of Mexidol-Vet tablets does not exclude the use of other means of pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy.

Special Instructions

Application of the drug in pregnant and lactating animals, puppies and kittens up to 2 months of age, if necessary, under the supervision of a veterinarian.  Use of Mexidol-Vet® does not exclude the use of other pathogenetic and symptomatic therapies.  The drug is not intended for use in productive animals.  Personal precautions When working with the drug Mexidol-Vet® follow general safety rules provided for when working with drugs. It is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat during work. At the end of work you should wash your hands with warm water and soap.  People with hypersensitivity to the drug components should avoid direct contact with the drug Mexidol-Vet®. In case of allergic reactions or in case of accidental ingestion of the drug you should immediately contact a medical facility (bring the instructions for use of the drug or the label).

Side effects

Side effects and complications when using the drug in accordance with these instructions, as a rule, are not observed.
