Mexidol-Vet has pronounced antioxidant, antihypoxic and membrane-protective properties. Increases the body’s resistance to various damaging factors to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia). It improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood, stabilizes membrane structures of platelets and erythrocytes during hemolysis, has hypolipidemic effect, reduces total cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins. Mexidol-Vet inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases superoxide dismutase activity, improves synaptic transmission and mediator transport. The mechanism of action of the drug lies in the ability to cause enhanced compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under hypoxia, with an increase in ATP and creatine phosphate, to activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria. When administered orally, Mexidol-Vet is quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal.

Indications

Prescribed for dogs for the prevention of vitamin, mineral and amino acid deficiencies, to improve skin and coat, prevention and comprehensive treatment of skin diseases (dermatitis, dermatosis, including allergic).

Composition

1 tablet ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate (mexidol) 50 mg Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose – 45.2 mg, povidone medium molecular – 11.3 mg, crosspovidone – 5 mg, magnesium stearate – 2.5 mg, milk sugar (lactose) – to 250 mg.

How to take, the dosage

It is administered orally after feeding in dogs and cats. The drug dose depends on the severity of the clinical condition of the animal: in acute phase of the disease therapeutic dose is 10-15 mg/kg/day, then it is reduced to 5.0-7.5 mg/kg of animal weight. In therapy of cardio-vascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency Mexidol-Vet® tablets are used 10-15 mg/kg of animal weight 2-3 times/day during 7-10 days, then the drug dose is reduced by half and used during 10-14 days. In chronic pathology, to maintain therapeutic effect, periodic administration of the drug is recommended 2-4 times a year by courses of 3 weeks to 5-7.5 mg/kg of animal weight 2 times / day. In order to prevent anesthesia and postnarcosis complications Mexidol-Vet® tablets are used 2 times a day for 2-3 days before and during 2-3 days after surgery. During transportation, participation in shows and competitions Mexidol-Vet® tablets are administered in a therapeutic dose of 5-7.5 mg/kg 2-3 times/day during 3-5 days before the supposed event. As a therapeutic and prophylactic agent Mexidol-Vet® tablets are used in dogs and cats older than 7 years old in dose of 5 mg/kg 2 times/day within 15-30 days. The course is repeated in 3-4 months. No peculiarities of action during the first use of the drug and its withdrawal have been revealed. If one or more doses of the drug are missed, the course of treatment should be resumed in accordance with the prescribed regimen and in the same doses.

Special Instructions

Application of the drug in pregnant and lactating animals, puppies and kittens up to 2 months of age, if necessary, under the supervision of a veterinarian.  Use of Mexidol-Vet® does not exclude the use of other pathogenetic and symptomatic therapies.  The drug is not intended for use in productive animals.  Personal precautions When working with the drug Mexidol-Vet® follow general safety rules provided for when working with drugs. It is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat during work. At the end of work, hands should be washed with warm water and soap.  People with hypersensitivity to the drug components should avoid direct contact with the drug Mexidol-Vet®. In case of allergic reactions or in case of accidental ingestion of the drug you should immediately contact a medical facility (bring the instructions for use of the drug or the label).

Side effects

Side effects and complications when using the drug in accordance with the instructions, as a rule, are not observed.  In case of overdose the development of somnolence is possible. If symptoms of overdose occur, the drug shall be temporarily withdrawn, if necessary symptomatic treatment shall be carried out.
