Ivermec refers to antiparasitic drugs of systemic action of macrocyclic lactones class.
Ivermectin contained in the drug has a pronounced antiparasitic effect on larval and sexually mature phases of gastrointestinal nematodes, lungs and eyes, larvae of subcutaneous, nasopharyngeal, stomach gadflies, lice, blood suckers and sarcoptoid mites.
The mechanism of action of ivermectin is in its effect on chlorine ions current through membranes of nerve and muscle cells of the parasite. The main targets are glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels as well as gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors. Changing current of chlorine ions disrupts nerve impulses leading to paralysis and death of parasite.
After parenteral administration of the preparation ivermectin is quickly absorbed from the injection site and distributed in organs and tissues of animal providing parasiticidal action during 10-14 days. It is eliminated from animals with urine and bile, in lactating animals – also with milk.
According to the degree of exposure on the body according to GOST 12.1.007-76 Ivermectin is classified as “moderately hazardous” substances (3rd class of hazard). The active substance – ivermectin – is classified as “extremely hazardous” substances (1st class of hazard). The drug has no embryotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects in the recommended doses, it is rapidly destroyed in the external environment. The drug is toxic to bees as well as to fish and other hydrobionts.
Indications
To kill fleas, lice, fleas and ixodid mites parasitizing on dogs, as well as to protect animals from their attacks, especially in the warm season (during the period of increased activity of parasites).

In severe cases of sarcoptoidosis the treatment is carried out twice with 8-10 days interval.
In case the volume of the injected solution is greater than 10 ml, it should be injected into the animal in several places.
Treatment of animals against nematode diseases is carried out in autumn before stabling and in spring before putting the animals out to pasture, against gadfly infestations – immediately after end of flying gadflies, against arachnoentomoses – by prescription.
Each series of the preparation is pre-tested on a small group (7-10 animals). In the absence of complications the whole livestock is treated within 3 days.
Ivermec should not be used simultaneously with drugs containing macrocyclic lactones due to possible mutual increase in toxic effect.
No specific features of the drug effect were revealed upon its first use and withdrawal.
