Pharmacological properties of the drug are caused by the active ingredient – pimobendan in its composition.

Penobendan is a benzimidazole derivative and belongs to non-steroidal cardiotonic drugs.

The drug partially inhibits phosphodiesterase III and simultaneously increases the sensitivity of cardiac myofibrils to calcium ions. Pinobendan not only increases myocardial contractile function, but also provides arterial vasodilation at the same time.

The drug is eliminated from the body mainly through the liver.

Side Effects

In rare cases, there is a slight positive chronotropic effect (increased heart rate), as well as vomiting. These effects are dose dependent and can be prevented by dose reduction.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to pimobendan. The drug should not be used for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and diseases in which an increase in cardiac output cannot be achieved for functional or anatomical reasons (for example, with aortic stenosis).

PimoPet is not used for dogs with severe forms of liver failure, puppies under 6 months of age, pregnant or lactating bitches, dogs with congenital heart disease, diabetes mellitus and other serious metabolic diseases.

Interaction

The pimobendan-induced increase in contractility fraction is attenuated by calcium antagonists such as verapamil and beta-blockers such as propranolol.
