Xyloct-Solopharm, drops 0.1% 10 ml

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with α₂ adrenomimetic action. It has a fast, pronounced and prolonged vasoconstrictor effect on the vessels of nasal mucosa, thus eliminating its edema and hyperemia. It restores nasal passageway patency and eases nasal breathing in rhinitis.

In therapeutic concentrations it does not irritate the nasal cavity mucosa and does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs within a few minutes and lasts for 10-12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, it is practically not absorbed, plasma concentrations are so low that they cannot be determined by modern analytical methods.

Indications

Acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachitis, otitis media (to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosa edema).

Preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

dinatrium edetate (trilon B) – 0.5 mg,

sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate – 3.54 mg,

How to take, the dosage

Intranasally (into each nostril).

The drug solution with 0,05 % concentration: children – from 2 to 6 years old – 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day; it should not be used more than 3 times a day.

The preparation solution with 0,1 % concentration: for adults and children over 6 years old – 2-3 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day (if necessary it can be repeated); the preparation should not be used more than 3 times a day.

The drug is used not more than 7 days.

Interaction

Xylometazoline should not be used in patients receiving therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants (including a period of 14 days after their withdrawal) due to the possibility of increased blood pressure.

Special Instructions

Avoid getting the drug in the eyes.

The drug should be used individually to avoid spreading infection.

The recommended doses should not be exceeded and the drug should not be used for prolonged periods (more than 7 days). Prolonged use of the drug may cause a “ricochet” effect (rhinitis medica), increasing the risk of reactive hyperemia and atrophy of the nasal mucosa.

Because the drug contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, especially with prolonged use (more than 7 days), nasal mucosal edema may develop. If there is suspicion of such a reaction (nasal congestion), it is necessary, if possible, to use a drug that does not contain preservatives. If such medications are not available, another form of medication should be used.

Influence on the ability to operate vehicles and machinery

Closylmetazoline may affect the ability to operate vehicles or equipment.

When treating with the drug, caution should be exercised when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and quick psychomotor actions.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;

– Arterial hypertension;

– Tachycardia;

– Severe atherosclerosis;

– Glaucoma;

– Atrophic rhinitis;

– Thyrotoxicosis;

– Brain surgery (history);

– Conditions after transsphenoidal pituitaryectomy;

– Children under 2 years of age – for SOLOXYLOMETAZOLIN, 35 mcg/dose nasal spray;

– Children under 6 years of age – for SOLOXYLOMETAZOLIN, 140 mcg/dose nasal spray;

– Pregnancy.

Do not use with therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants (including a period of 14 days after their withdrawal).

With caution

Diabetes mellitus, prostatic hyperplasia, coronary heart disease (angina pectoris), pheochromocytoma, hyperthyroidism, lactation; in hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs accompanied by insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmias, tremors, increased blood pressure.

Side effects

In frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dry nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion of nasopharyngeal mucosa, hypersensitivity reactions, nasal mucosa edema, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, headache, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, visual disturbances, depression (with prolonged use of high doses).

If any of the side effects listed in the instructions worsen, or if you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: increased side effects (dose-dependent), decreased body temperature, confusion. If ingested accidentally, the drug may cause: severe dizziness, increased sweating, headache, bradycardia, increased blood pressure, respiratory depression, coma and seizures. After a rise in blood pressure, there may be a sharp decrease in blood pressure.

Treatment: symptomatic.
