Xanthinol nicotinate, 150 mg/ml 2 ml 10 pcs.

The drug combines properties of theophylline and nicotinic acid: causes dilation of peripheral vessels, improves collateral circulation, improves oxygenation and tissue nutrition, increases oxidative phosphorylation and ATP synthesis.

Xanthinol nicotinate improves cerebral blood circulation and reduces cerebral hypoxia.

The drug also activates the processes of fibrinolysis and reduces platelet aggregation.

Indications

Obliterating atherosclerosis and endarteritis of lower limb vessels;

Diabetic angiopathy; retinopathies;

acute thrombophlebitis of superficial and deep veins;

strombophlebitis syndrome;

trophic ulcers of the lower extremities;

bedsores;

Meniere’s syndrome;

Dermatoses associated with trophic disorders of a vascular nature;

Cerebral circulatory disorders.

How to take, the dosage

In acute disorders of blood supply to tissues the drug is administered intramuscularly 0.3 g (2 ml of 15% solution) 1-3 times a day. Depending on the nature of the disease, the dose can be gradually increased to 0.6-0.9 g (4-6 ml of 15% solution) 2-3 times a day. The duration of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

In acute disorders of peripheral and cerebral circulation Xanthinol nicotinate is administered intravenously by drip at a rate of 40-50 drops per minute. For this purpose 1.5 g (10 ml of 15% solution) of the drug is diluted in 200-500 ml of 5% glucose solution or in 200 ml of sodium chloride isotonic solution, the given infusion mixture is administered dropwise within 1.5-4 hours.

The infusion can be repeated up to 4 times a day; the duration of treatment is 5-10 days.

Interaction

In order to avoid a sharp fall in blood pressure, the drug should not be used simultaneously with hypotensive agents. It should not be combined with therapy with MAO inhibitors, strophantine.

Special Instructions

Xanthinol nicotinate causes “nicotine-like” syndrome accompanied by hyperesthesia of the mucous membranes of the nose and mouth (aggravates the sensitivity of olfactory and taste receptors) due to this the smell and taste of alcoholic beverages taken during therapy is perceived sharper and more perverse.

Large doses of the drug may cause dizziness, weakness and arterial hypotension; therefore, one should refrain from driving vehicles and operating machinery.

In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during lactation the drug is allowed only with absolute indications and close supervision of the physician.

Avoid contact of the solution with eyes or mucous membranes.

Contraindications

Acute heart failure, including acute myocardial infarction;

Chronic heart failure degree IIB-III;

mitral stenosis;

arterial hypotension;

acute bleeding;

pregnancy I trimester;

Gastric and 12-duodenal ulcer in the acute stage;

acute renal failure;

glaucoma;

childhood;

hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

Xanthinol nicotinate may cause dizziness, decreased blood pressure, general weakness, fever, tingling and reddening of the upper body skin, especially the neck and head, nausea, anorexia, diarrhea. These symptoms usually disappear after 10-20 minutes, do not require special treatment and discontinuation of therapy with this drug.

In case of any undesirable effects not described in these instructions and if the above-mentioned side effects occur during therapy with this drug, the attending physician must be informed immediately.

The drug causes changes in glucose tolerance, increased activity of hepatic transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, and hyperuricemia when administered in high doses for a long time.

Overdose

The drug is mildly toxic.

Acute overdose of xanthinol nicotinate is accompanied by arterial hypotension, general weakness, dizziness, tachycardia, abdominal pain and vomiting.

In case of symptoms of overdose symptomatic therapy is prescribed.
