Active ingredient

Menadione sodium bisulfite

Composition

1 tablet contains 15 mg of sodium bisulfite menadione.

How to take, the dosage

Adults Vicasol is prescribed orally in 15-30 mg per day.

Children under 1 year of age – 2-5 mg per day, 1 to 2 years – 6 mg per day, 3-4 years – 8 mg per day, 5-9 years – 10 mg per day, 10-14 years – 15 mg per day. Frequency of administration – 2-3 times a day.

The maximum daily dose of the drug for newborns is 4 mg.

The duration of treatment is 3-4 days.

The course of treatment is repeated after a 4-day break.

Interaction

Antacids decrease absorption due to precipitation of bile acid salts in the initial part of the small intestine.

It does not affect the anticoagulant activity of heparin.

Concomitant administration with broad-spectrum antibiotics, quinidine, quinine, salicylates in high doses, antibacterial sulfonamides requires increasing the dose of vitamin K.

Colestyramine, colestipol, mineral oils, sucralfate, dactinomycin reduce absorption of vitamin K, which requires increasing its dose.

The concomitant administration with hemolytic drugs increases the risk of side effects

Special Instructions

In diseases leading to bile outflow disorder parenteral administration is recommended. In hemophilia and Verlhof disease the drug is ineffective.

Limits the effects of indirect anticoagulants.

Fitonadion is preferred over sodium bisulfite menadione for the prevention of hemorrhagic disease in newborns because it is less likely to cause hyperbilirubinemia and hemolytic anemia in newborns (including premature babies).

Impact on driving and operating machinery

When treating with the drug, one should refrain from driving and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

• high sensitivity to the drug components
• high blood clotting, thromboembolism
• hemolytic disease in newborns.

With caution:-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, hepatic insufficiency.

Side effects

• Allergic reactions: facial hyperemia, skin itching, skin rash, bronchospasm.
• Blood system: hemolytic anemia, hemolysis in newborn children with congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, hemolytic disease in newborns.
• Local reactions: pain and swelling at the injection site, skin lesions in the form of spots during repeated injections in the same place.
• Others: hyperbilirubinemia, jaundice (including nuclear jaundice in infants), dizziness, transient decrease in blood pressure, “profuse” sweat, tachycardia, “weak” pulse filling, change in taste.
  

Overdose

Rarely – hypervitaminosis K, manifested by hyperprothrombin and hyperthrombinemia, hyperbilirubinemia, increased blood clotting, thromboembolism. Treatment is symptomatic.
