Pharmacotherapeutic group: Antinoconstrictive drug
ATX code. R01AB01
Pharmacological properties: Vibrocil is a combination drug containing phenylephrine and dimethindene.
Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent, when used topically it has a moderate vasoconstrictor effect (due to stimulation of alpha1-adrenoreceptors located in the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa), it eliminates swelling of the nasal mucosa and its accessory sinuses.
Dimetinden is an anti-allergic agent – an antagonist of histamine H1-receptors; it does not reduce activity of the nasal mucosal epithelium.
Pharmacokinetics. Vibrocil is intended for topical use and its activity is independent of the concentration of active substances in blood plasma.

Special Instructions
Vibrocil should not be used for more than 1 week without consulting a doctor. Prolonged (more than 2 weeks) or excessive use of the drug may cause tachyphylaxis, and the “ricochet” effect (drug-induced rhinitis), lead to the development of systemic vasoconstrictor action.
Do not exceed the recommended doses of Vibrocil! Otherwise you may develop manifestations of systemic effects of the drug.
In children under 6 years of age only nasal drops are used.
Vibrocil has no sedative effect (does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions).
It can be used during lactation.
Phenylephrine (like other vasoconstrictors) is contraindicated in patients who are currently receiving MAO inhibitors or have received them in the previous 2 weeks.
Phenylephrine should not be prescribed concomitantly with tricyclic antidepressants, beta-adrenoblockers.
Contraindications
Atrophic rhinitis (including with stinky discharge – ozenema). Taking MAO inhibitors (simultaneously or in the previous 14 days).
With caution, use in patients with arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, cardiovascular disease, and patients with generalized atherosclerosis, thyroid disease, closed-angle glaucoma, prostate adenoma, insulin-dependent diabetes.
As with any topical vasoconstrictors, caution should be exercised when prescribing Vibrocil to patients with significant reactions to sympathomimetics (e.g., with the development of insomnia and dizziness).
The drug is not recommended to be taken during pregnancy without a doctor’s recommendation.
Side effects
