Pharmacological action – analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory.

Methamisole (derivative of pyrazolone) has analgesic, antipyretic and mild anti-inflammatory effects, pitophenone has direct myotropic effect on smooth muscles, causing their relaxation, phenpiperinium – cholinolytic effect and consequently also relaxing effect on smooth muscles.

Pain relieves pain, eliminates spasm of smooth muscles, reduces elevated body temperature.

Indications

• Pain of various origins
• spasms of the internal organs (colic of the kidneys, biliary colic)
• postoperative pain. vascular spasms of the brain.

Active ingredient

Sodium metamizole, Pitofenone, Phenpiperinia bromide

Composition

1 ampoule with 5 ml of solution contains metamizole sodium 500 mg,

pitophenone hydrochloride 2 mg and phenpiperinia bromide 0.02 mg.

How to take, the dosage

In colic patients the drug is administered intravenously 1 ampoule (5 ml) slowly over 5-8 minutes.

Repeated administration is possible after 6-8 hours. The drug can be administered intramuscularly, but its effect comes after 20-30 minutes.

Interaction

Simultaneous use of Bral with other non-narcotic analgesics may result in mutually reinforcing effects.

Tricyclic antidepressants, oral contraceptives, allopurinol impair metabolism of metamizole in the liver and increase its toxicity.

Barbiturates, phenylbutazone and other inducers of microsomal liver enzymes weaken the effects of sodium metamizole.

Concomitant use with cyclosporine reduces the blood levels of the latter. Sedatives and tranquilizers increase the analgesic effect of the drug.

When co-administration with ethanol – mutual enhancement of the effects.

If simultaneous use of the above and other medicinal products is necessary, a physician should be consulted.

Special Instructions

Methamizole metabolites can stain urine red.

Contraindications

• agranulocytosis
• ischemic heart disease
• glaucoma
• adenoma of the prostate

• high sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

• decrease in the number of white blood cells
• decrease in blood pressure
• disorders of kidney function
• allergic reactions.

Overdose

Symptoms: vomiting, decreased blood pressure, drowsiness, confusion, nausea, epigastric pain, liver and kidney function disorders, seizures.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.

Pregnancy use

Bral is contraindicated in pregnant women, nursing mothers and children in the first three months of life.
