Composition

Active ingredient:

Thioctic acid (alpha-lipoic acid) 600 mg.

Auxiliary substances:

calcium stearate,

potato starch,

colloidal silicon dioxide (aerosil),

sodium croscarmellose (primellose),

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion.

Prescribe 600 mg once a day.

Tablets are taken on an empty stomach about 30 minutes before the first meal, without chewing and with plenty of fluids.

The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Interaction

In concomitant administration of thioctic acid and cisplatin there is a decrease in the effectiveness of cisplatin.

Thioctic acid binds metals, so it should not be prescribed simultaneously with drugs containing metals (e.g., drugs of iron, magnesium, calcium) – the interval between doses should be at least 2 hours.

When thioctic acid and insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs are administered simultaneously their effect may increase.

Ethanol and its metabolites weaken the effect of thioctic acid.

Special Instructions

Patients taking Thiolepta® should refrain from drinking alcohol.

In patients with diabetes mellitus, continuous monitoring of blood glucose concentrations is necessary, especially in the initial phase of therapy. In some cases, it is necessary to decrease the dose of insulin or oral hypoglycemic drug to avoid the development of hypoglycemia.

Contraindications

Side effects

Thiolepta® is usually well tolerated.

Dyspepsia including nausea, vomiting, heartburn may occur.

In some cases, the development of skin allergic reactions (urticaria) is possible.

Possible development of hypoglycemia (due to improved glucose absorption).

Overdose

Symptoms: headache, nausea, vomiting.
Treatment: symptomatic therapy. There is no specific antidote.
