A counteractant, has retinoprotective (when administered subconjunctivally) and metabolic effects. Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid formed in the body during cysteine metabolism.
It promotes normalization of cell membrane functions, activation of energy and metabolic processes, preservation of electrolyte composition of cytoplasm due to accumulation of potassium and calcium cations and improvement of nerve impulse conducting conditions.

In local administration systemic adsorption is low.
Indications
Corneal trauma, Pain, Cataract, Eye burns
The drug is used as part of complex therapy. Corneal dystrophy; cataract (senile, diabetic, traumatic, radiation); corneal trauma (as a stimulant of reparative processes). Primary open-angle glaucoma in combination with β-adrenoblockers (to improve outflow of intraocular fluid).

How to take, the dosage
In cataract, the drug is administered as instillations in 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day for 3 months. The course is repeated at one-month intervals.
In case of trauma and dystrophic corneal diseases the drug is used in the same doses for 1 month.
In open-angle glaucoma (in combination with butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or timololol maleate) 1 to 2 drops 2 times daily 15-20 minutes before prescribing one of the local hypotensive agents, for 6 weeks followed by withdrawal for 2 weeks.
Interaction
Co-administration of taurine with timolol is possible. No cases of negative drug interactions between taurine and other drugs used in ophthalmology have been described.
In patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, an increase in the hypotensive effect of β-adrenoblockers (butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or thymolol maleate) was noted when used together with taurine.
Special Instructions
The preservative contained in the drug may have an irritating effect on the eye when wearing contact lenses, so any contact lenses should be removed before the injection and put on no earlier than 15 minutes after it. If it is necessary to simultaneously use other ophthalmological drugs (eye-drops, etc.) the interval between the use of taurine and other drugs should be at least 10-15 minutes.

Pregnancy use
There is no sufficient experience in using the drug during pregnancy and lactation. It is possible to use Taurine for treatment of pregnant and lactating women by prescription of the attending physician, if the expected therapeutic effect for the mother exceeds the risk of possible side effects for the fetus and child.
