Folic acid is a B vitamin (vitamin B9) and can be synthesized by the intestinal microflora. In the body, folic acid is reduced to tetrahydrofolic acid, which is a coenzyme involved in various metabolic processes.
It is necessary for:
– normal maturation of megaloblasts;
– formation of normoblasts;
– stimulates erythropoiesis;
– participates in the synthesis of amino acids (including.

Indications
Hypo- and avitaminosis of folic acid, including:
– tropical and non-tropical sprue;
– malnutrition;
– pregnancy;
– in patients taking anti-epileptic, contraceptive medications.
Composition

Adults: 1 tablet a day with meals.
Interaction
In concomitant use with chloramphenicol, neomycin, polymyxins, tetracyclines absorption of folic acid is reduced.
In concomitant use folic acid reduces the effects of phenytoin, primidone, PASC, sulfasalazine, oral hormonal contraceptives, chloramphenicol.
Folic acid increases the metabolism of phenytoin.
Special Instructions
In pernicious anemia folic acid should be used only together with cyanocobalamin, because folic acid does not prevent development of neurological complications (including funicular myelosis) by stimulating hematopoiesis.
The long-term use of folic acid (especially in high doses) is not recommended because of the risk of decreasing the concentration of cyanocobalamin in the blood.
