Silver drug (silver proteinate contains 7.5-8.5% silver). It has astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. It dissociates with the formation of silver ions that bind with the DNA of bacteria and prevent their reproduction on mucous membranes in conditions of local application. Mechanism of action of silver proteinate is based on the fact that silver ions precipitate proteins and form a protective film on the damaged mucous membrane, which helps to reduce the sensitivity of nerve endings and narrowing of blood vessels (which leads to reduction of edema), which in turn leads to inhibition of inflammatory reactions. Silver ions also inhibit the reproduction of various bacteria. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms: B. cereus, C. albicans, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, A. niger, S. abony and others.

Indications

• adenoids, acute, allergic, vasomotor rhinitis, chronic diseases of the nasal cavity, nasopharynx, sinuses, including. accompanied by dry nasal mucosa;
• prevention of nasal cavity infections in the fall and winter, in changing climatic conditions (rooms with air conditioning and / or central heating), the presence of polluted ambient air (smokers, vehicle drivers, hot and dusty workshops);

Composition

1 tablet for preparing a solution for topical use contains:

Active ingredients: silver proteinate (protargol) 200 mg, polyvinyl-N-pyrrolidone;

Solvent: purified water

How to take, the dosage

To prepare 2% solution, dissolve 1 tablet (200 mg) in 10 ml of the included solvent.
Rinse and clean nasal mucosa before application of the 2% solution. Apply 1-3 drops 3 times a day for 5-7 days.

How to prepare the solution

• Pour the solvent into the bottle.

• He shakes until the tablet is completely dissolved (8-10 minutes).

Interaction

Before using Protargol, make sure you tell your doctor if you are using other medicines. In most cases Protargol can be used in combination with other medicines (there are no data on interaction of Protargol with other medicines).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug components, pregnancy, breastfeeding, atrophic rhinitis, children under 3 years of age.

Side effects

Mild mucosal irritation, burning, itching, dry mouth, red eyes, allergic reactions.

Overdose

Symptoms: with excessive use there may be increased side effects in the form of irritation, burning of the nasal mucosa, itching of the skin. Large amount of the drug may cause gastrointestinal irritation if accidentally swallowed.
Treatment: in case of strong irritation, burning, itching mucous membranes should be flushed with large amount of water for 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.
