Pirazidol, tablets 50 mg 50 pcs

Pirazidol is thymoleptic, antidepressant.

Pirazidol selectively inhibits MAO type A, blocks deamination of serotonin and norepinephrine, to a lesser extent – tyramine. Partially inhibits monoamine reuptake, potentiates effects of norepinephrine precursor – dioxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) and serotonin precursor – 5-oxytryptophan. Stimulates adreno- and serotonergic structures. Activates the processes of synaptic transmission of nerve excitation in the CNS. It has a nootropic effect and improves cognitive functions.

Pharmacodynamics

The tholeptic effect is combined with a balanced effect on the CNS (activating effect in patients with apathetic, anergic depression or sedating effect in patients in an agitated state).

Indications

Depression, including senile, involutional, proceeding mainly with psychomotor retardation and asthenic disorders, anxiety-depressive or anxiety-mad components, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease (in the complex therapy).

How to take, the dosage

Overly, 0.05-0.075 g/day in 2 doses, gradually increasing the dose by 0.025-0.05 g to 0.15-0.30 g/day.

The maximum daily dose is 0.4 g divided into 2-3 doses.

After achieving therapeutic effect the treatment is continued for 2-4 weeks, after which the dose is gradually reduced.

Interaction

Increases the effectiveness of epinephrine (due to antimonoamine oxidase activity).

Incompatible with antipsychotic drugs, anxiolytics.

Incompatible with antidepressants – MAO inhibitors, furazolidone, procarbazine, selegiline.

Special Instructions

Pirazidol is not prescribed concomitantly with MAO inhibitor antidepressants, furazolidone, procarbazine, selegiline.

Pirazidol may be used in patients with glaucoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Pirazidol is compatible with antipsychotics, anxiolytics.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, acute hepatitis, blood diseases, concomitant use of MAO inhibitors.

Side effects

Dry mouth, nausea, sweating, hand tremors, tachycardia, dizziness, allergic reactions.

Pregnancy use

There have been no adequate and strictly controlled studies on the safety and efficacy of the drug in pregnancy and lactation.
