Piobacteriophage liquid complex is a drug with specific selective antibacterial action. Piobacteriophage is active against strains of Streptococcus, Proteus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, Occitox, Pseudomonas pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae and E. coli.
Phiobacteriophage lyses sensitive bacteria due to its ability to attach to their membrane and penetrate the cell. Phage particles multiply in the bacterial cell at the expense of the energy resources of the microorganisms, which leads to their death.
After the death of the bacterial cell, mature phage particles emerge, capable of infecting other susceptible microorganisms.
Phiobacteriophage has no effect on other types of bacteria and does not cause disruption of the natural microflora.
