Compensates insufficiency of external pancreatic secretory function, has proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action.

The enzymes included in Pancreatin (lipase, amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) contribute to the breakdown of proteins into amino acids, fats into glycerol and fatty acids, starch into dextrins and monosaccharides.

It improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract and normalizes digestive processes.

Trypsin inhibits stimulated pancreatic secretion with analgesic effect.

Pancreatic enzymes are released from the dosage form in the alkaline environment of the small intestine because they are protected from the action of gastric juice by the coating.

Indications

– Replacement therapy for pancreatic external secretory insufficiency: Chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, condition after radiation, dyspepsia, cystic fibrosis;

– flatulence, diarrhea of non-infectious genesis, Remheld syndrome (gastrocardiac syndrome);

– impaired digestion (condition after gastric and small bowel resection); to improve digestion in people with normal function of the gastrointestinal tract in case of poor diet (consumption of fatty foods, large amounts of food, irregular meals) and with disorders of masticatory function, sedentary lifestyle, prolonged immobilization;

– preparation for X-ray and ultrasonic examination of the abdominal cavity.

Composition

Active ingredient:

Pancreatin – 0.1 g (25 units).

Auxiliary substances:

milk sugar (lactose),

gelatin,

potato starch,

calcium stearate,

cellacephate (acetyl phthalyl cellulose),

titanium dioxide (titanium dioxide),

liquid paraffin (vaseline oil),

twin-80 (polysorbate),

dye azorubin (acid red 2C).

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion. The drug is taken during or after a meal, without chewing and with non-alkaline liquid (water, fruit juices).

The dose is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disorders.

Adults usually – 2 – 4 tablets 3 – 6 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 16 tablets.

In children over 6 years of age the drug is used by prescription. The dose is determined individually. Usually 1 tablet 3 times a day is prescribed.

The duration of the treatment can vary from a few days (when there is a digestive disturbance due to errors in the diet) to a few months or years (if permanent replacement therapy is necessary).

Interaction

Pancreatin administration may reduce absorption of iron and folic acid.

Concomitant use of antacids containing calcium carbonate and/or magnesium hydroxide may reduce the effectiveness of Pancreatin.

Special Instructions

In cystic fibrosis, high doses of Pancreatin are not recommended because of the increased risk of strictures (fibrous colonopathy).

The dose should be adequate to the amount of enzyme needed for fat absorption, taking into account the quality and quantity of food consumed.

Contraindications

High sensitivity to the ingredients of the drug, acute pancreatitis, exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis, children under 6 years of age

Side effects

Allergic reactions. Rarely – diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea (causal relation of the development of these reactions with the action of Pancreatin is not established, because these phenomena refer to the symptoms of external secretory pancreatic insufficiency).

In prolonged use in high doses the development of hyperuricosuria, hyperuricemia is possible. In cystic fibrosis in case of exceeding the required dose of Pancreatin it is possible to develop strictures (fibrous colonopathy) in the ileocecal region in the ascending colon.

When using Pancreatin in high doses in children, perianal irritation and irritation of the oral mucosa may occur

Overdose

Symptoms: hyperuricosuria, hyperuricemia. In children – constipation.

Treatment: drug withdrawal, symptomatic therapy.
