An enzymatic remedy.

Contains pancreatic enzymes – amylase, lipase and proteases, which facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, which contributes to their more complete absorption in the small intestine.

In diseases of the pancreas, it compensates the insufficiency of its external secretory function and improves digestion.

Indications

Pancreatic external secretory function deficiencies (chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.).

Active ingredients:

Pancreatin 25 IU (100 mg).

How to take, the dosage

The dose (in terms of lipase) depends on age and degree of pancreatic insufficiency. Average dose for adults is 150,000 IU/day. In case of complete insufficiency of external pancreatic secretory function – 400 000 IU/day, which corresponds to daily lipase requirement of an adult person.

The maximum daily dose is 15,000 IU/kg.

In children under 1.5 years of age, 50,000 IU/day; over 1.5 years, 100,000 IU/day.

The duration of treatment may vary from a few days (when digestion is disturbed due to errors in diet) to several months or even years (if permanent replacement therapy is necessary).

Interaction

Concomitant use with antacids containing calcium carbonate and/or magnesium hydroxide may decrease the effectiveness of pancreatin.

Concomitant use may theoretically reduce the clinical efficacy of acarbose.

Concomitant use of iron preparations may decrease the absorption of iron.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, acute pancreatitis, exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis.

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: in some cases – diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea. The cause-and-effect relation of the development of these reactions with the action of pancreatin has not been established, because these phenomena are related to the symptoms of external pancreatic insufficiency.

Allergic reactions: in some cases – skin manifestations.

Metabolism disorders: in prolonged use in high doses hyperuricosuria is possible; in excessive doses – increase in plasma uric acid level.

Others: perianal irritation may occur with high doses of pancreatin in children.
