– Treatment of acute respiratory diseases accompanied by runny nose;

How to take, the dosage

Intranasally.

In children aged 1 to 6 years: 1 injection of Oxyfrine nasal spray dosed 11.25 mcg/dose into each nostril 2-3 times a day. The drug is used for 5 to 7 days. The drug may only be repeated after a few days.

Adults and children over 6 years of age: 1 spray of Oxyfrin, 22.5 mcg/dose nasal spray in each nostril 2-3 times a day.

If symptoms worsen or do not improve within 3 days, a physician should be consulted. At the recommended dose without consulting a physician, use for no more than 7 days.

Doses above the recommended dose should only be used under a physician’s supervision.

In frequent and prolonged use, a “stuffy” feeling in the nose may reappear or worsen. If these symptoms occur, you should stop treatment and see a doctor.

Interaction

In concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (within the previous 2 weeks and within 2 weeks after their withdrawal), tricyclic antidepressants or other drugs that contribute to increased blood pressure, increased blood pressure may be observed.

The drug slows absorption of local anesthetic drugs, prolonging their effect.

The co-administration of other vasoconstrictors increases the risk of side effects.

Special Instructions

Avoid getting the drug in the eyes.

The drug must be used individually to avoid spreading infection.

Impact on ability to drive vehicles and machines:

After long-term use of nasal decongestants containing oxymetazoline in doses greater than recommended, general effects on the cardiovascular system and central nervous system cannot be ruled out. In these cases, caution should be exercised when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;

– atrophic (dry) rhinitis;

– Closed angle glaucoma;

– condition after transsphenoidal pituitaryectomy;

– surgical interventions on the dura mater (history);

– children under 6 years of age – for Oxyfrine, 22.5 mcg/dose nasal spray.

With caution:

. In patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system (arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure, pronounced atherosclerosis, tachycardia, arrhythmias), carbohydrate metabolism disorders (diabetes), thyroid function disorders (hyperthyroidism), pheochromocytoma, chronic renal insufficiency, prostatic hyperplasia with clinical symptoms (urinary retention), increased intraocular pressure, porphyria, as well as in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors during the previous 2 weeks and within 2 weeks after their withdrawal, tricyclic antidepressants, bromocriptine.

Side effects

Burning or dry mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, dry mucous membranes of the mouth and throat; sneezing; increased nasal secretion; nasal bleeding; after the effect of the drug, a feeling of “stuffy” nose (reactive hyperemia).

Side effects due to the systemic action of the drug: increased blood pressure, headache, dizziness, palpitations, tachycardia, restlessness, anxiety, fatigue, drowsiness, sedation, irritability, sleep disturbance (in children), nausea, insomnia, exanthema, visual disturbance (if in the eyes), hallucinations, Quincke’s edema, itching, seizures, respiratory arrest (in infants).

Long-term continuous use of vasoconstrictors may lead to tachyphylaxis, nasal mucosal atrophy, and recurrent nasal mucosal edema (medically-induced rhinitis).

If any of the side effects listed in the instructions worsen, or if you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: anxiety, restlessness, hallucinations, seizures, decreased body temperature, lethargy, drowsiness, coma, constriction or dilation of the pupils, fever, sweating, pallor, cyanosis, palpitations, bradycardia, arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, increased blood pressure, decreased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression, respiratory arrest.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal (in case of accidental ingestion of the drug); symptomatic.
