Belladonna leaves

Composition

One suppository contains:

Belladonna thick extract (belladonna leaves) – 15 mg

Auxiliary components:

Synthetic phenol for medical purposes – 1.4 mg,

Polyethylene oxide 1500 (macrogol 1500) and polyethylene oxide 400 (macrogol 400) – a sufficient amount to obtain a suppository weighing 1.6 g.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, with closed-angle glaucoma, with prostatic hypertrophy with impaired urine outflow.

Side Effects

In case of hypersensitivity or overdose of the drug, allergic reactions, dry mouth, dilated pupils, constipation, dizziness, palpitations, photophobia, redness of the skin­­­­­and eyelids, urinary retention are possible.

Interaction

Belladonna alkaloids weaken the effects of m-cholinomimetics and anticholinesterase drugs, corticotropin, ketoconazole, anticoagulants, and reduce the duration of action of anesthesia.

Belladonna alkaloids increase the therapeutic effect of anticholinergics and antidepressants.

Pharmacological incompatibility with aminazine, diprazine, caffeine, caffeine sodium benzoate, pilocarpine, proserine, thiamine bromide.

Overdose

With a slight overdose: dry mouth, dilated pupils, impaired accommodation, tachycardia, photophobia, respiratory paralysis, difficulty urinating, intestinal atony, dizziness.

In case of severe intoxication: motor and mental agitation, severe anxiety, hypertension, photophobia, respiratory paralysis, nausea, vomiting, hallucinatory phenomena, convulsions.

Treatment: diazepam. Symptomatic treatment.

Storage conditions

In a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.

Shelf life

2 years. Do not use the drug after the expiration date.
