Nitroxoline is an antimicrobial agent derived from 8-oxyquinoline.

The mechanism of action is associated with selective inhibition of bacterial DNA synthesis.

Indications

Infectious and inflammatory diseases mainly of the urinary tract (including pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, epididymitis, infected adenoma or prostate carcinoma) caused by nitroxolin-sensitive microorganisms.

The prevention of infectious complications during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (catheterization, cystoscopy) in the postoperative period during renal and urinary tract surgery.

The tablet contains nitroxoline 50 mg;

50 pieces in a package.

How to take, the dosage

In adults, the dose of Nitroxolin is 600-800 mg/day. Frequency of administration is 3-4 times per day with an interval of 6-8 hours. The course of treatment is 10-14 days.

The maximum dose is 1-1.2 g.

In children, the dose of Nitroxolin is 10-30 mg/kg/day in 3-4 doses.

Special Instructions

In the background of using Nitroxolin, urine is stained saffron yellow.

Contraindications

Kidney function disorders accompanied by oligo- or anuria, severe liver diseases, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, cataract, neuritis, pregnancy, lactation, hypersensitivity to quinoline products.

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite; in single cases – liver function disorders.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching.

CNS and peripheral nervous system disorders: in single cases – ataxia, headache, paresthesia, polyneuropathy; in case of long-term use there has been described a case of neuritis of the eye nerve.

Cardiovascular system: tachycardia in single cases.
