How to take, the dosage

Ingestion, regardless of meals or with meals.

Epilepsy. Adults and children over 12 years of age: effective dose is 900-3600 mg/day. Therapy may be started with a dose of 300 mg 3 times daily on the first day or titrate the dose. Subsequently, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 3600 mg/day (in 3 equal doses). Tolerability of the drug in doses up to 4800 mg/day was good in long-term open clinical trials. The maximum interval between doses in three doses of the drug should not exceed 12 hours in order to avoid the occurrence of seizures.

In children 3-12 years of age: the effective dose is 25-35 mg/kg/day in equal doses in 3 doses. The dose can be titrated to effective for 3 days: 10 mg/kg/day on the first day, 20 mg/kg/day on the second day, and 30 mg/kg/day on the third day. Later, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 35 mg/kg/day in equal doses in 3 doses. In a long-term clinical study, tolerability of the drug in doses up to 40-50 mg/kg/day was good.

Gabapentin can be used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs without fear of changes in plasma concentrations of gabapentin and serum concentrations of other antiepileptic drugs. Withdrawal of gabapentin and/or the addition of another anticonvulsant medication to treatment should be done gradually over a period of at least 1 week.

Neuropathic pain in adults. The initial dose is 900 mg/day in 3 doses in equal doses; if necessary, depending on the effect, the dose is gradually increased to a maximum of 3600 mg/day. Begin treatment on a dose-matching basis as described in the first table.

Contraindications

Children under 3 years of age; hypersensitivity to gabapentin and other components of the drug.

Side effects

Body in general: not less than 1% – accidental injury, asthenia, back pain, flu-like syndrome, headache, infection, pain of different localization, peripheral edema, weight gain.

Digestive system disorders: at least 1% – constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

CNS and peripheral nervous system disorders: not less than 1% – gait disturbance, amnesia, ataxia, confusion, dizziness, hypoesthesia, somnolence, thought disorder, tremor.

Respiratory system: at least 1% – dyspnea, pharyngitis;

Dermatological reactions: at least 1% – skin rash.

Sensory system disorders: at least 1% – amblyopia.
