Pharmacological action

Phenylephrine hydrochloride is an alpha 1-adrenergic receptor agonist (sympathomimetic) which has a vasoconstrictor effect due to stimulation of alpha1-receptors in the nasal mucosa, it reduces nasal mucous membrane swelling and hyperemia, nasal mucous congestion and improves nasal airway patency.

Pharmacokinetics

In topical application systemic absorption is low.

Indications

For relief of nasal breathing in colds, flu, hay fever or other allergic upper respiratory diseases accompanied by acute rhinitis or sinusitis.

Benzalkonium chloride 0.018 g, glycerol 5 g, macrogol 1500 1.5 g, sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate 0.226 g, potassium dihydrophosphate 0.101 g, dihydrate dihydrate 0.02 g, purified water 94.76 g.

How to take, the dosage

Intranasally. Gently squeeze the bottle upside down.

In children 2 months to 1 year of age, a single dose of 1 drop at most every 6 hours.

For children aged 1 to 6 years, the single dose is 1 to 2 drops.

For children over 6 years of age and adults, a single dose of 3-4 drops.

Wipe the pipette on the bottle dry after use.

The duration of treatment is not more than 3 days.

Special Instructions

The drug is used from 2 months of age.

In children, the systemic absorption of phenylephrine and the associated risk of side effects is higher than in adults.

Phenylephrine should not be administered to patients within 2 weeks of withdrawal of monoamine oxidase inhibitors because they may increase the severity of the adrenergic effects of sympathomimetics and increase the risk of cardiovascular side effects.

Contraindications

Side effects

Local reactions: sometimes burning, tingling or nasal tingling.

Systemic effects: headache, dizziness, palpitations, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, sweating, pallor, tremors, sleep disturbances.

Overdose

Similarities
