Active ingredient

How to take, the dosage

It is administered intranasally (in each nasal passage).

Adults and children over 15 years of age are prescribed 1 to 3 drops of 0.05-0.1% solution of the drug 3 to 4 times a day.

In children 0.05% solution is used: from 1 to 6 years – 1 to 2 drops, from 6 to 15 years – 2 drops 1-3 times a day.

For diagnostic purposes, after nasal cleansing put 3 to 4 drops in each nostril or put a sponge soaked in 0.05% solution and leave it in for 1 to 2 minutes.

In case of rhinitis, the course of treatment should not exceed 5-7 days in adults and no more than 3 days in children.

Interaction

Do not use simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days after termination of their use.

Delays absorption of local anesthetic drugs (prolongs their effect in surface anesthesia).

The co-administration of other vasoconstrictor drugs increases the risk of side effects.

Special Instructions

It may have a resorptive effect.

The vasoconstrictor effect gradually decreases with long-term use (tachyphylaxis phenomenon); therefore, it is recommended to take a break for a few days after 5-7 days of use.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, arterial hypertension, marked atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, chronic rhinitis, severe eye disease, diabetes, tachycardia, simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and the period up to 14 days after the end of their use, age under 1 year (for 0.05% solution), age under 15 years (for 0.1% solution).

With caution:

Ischemic heart disease (angina pectoris), prostatic hyperplasia, pheochromocytoma, pregnancy, period of breastfeeding.

Side effects

Central nervous system: headache.

Cardiovascular system: tachycardia, increased blood pressure, reactive hyperemia.

Digestive system disorders: nausea.

Local reactions: irritation, nasal mucosa swelling, if used for more than 1 week – nasal mucosa edema, atrophic rhinitis.

Overdose

Symptoms: decreased body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure.

Treatment: symptomatic.
