Vasoconstrictor agent. It stimulates alpha1- and alpha2-adrenoreceptors, has antiedematous effect. The vasoconstrictor effect is manifested by local application on the nasal mucosa. In rhinitis it facilitates nasal breathing by reducing blood flow to venous sinuses.
Indications
Acute rhinitis
sinusitis
laryngitis
eustachitis
rhinoscopy (to facilitate the procedure).
Pharmacological effect
Vasoconstrictor. Stimulates alpha1- and alpha2-adrenergic receptors and has an anti-edematous effect. The vasoconstrictor effect is manifested by local application on the nasal mucosa. For rhinitis, it facilitates nasal breathing, reducing blood flow to the venous sinuses.
Special instructions
It is not recommended for use for chronic rhinitis.
With long-term use, it should be taken into account that the vasoconstrictor effect gradually decreases (the phenomenon of tachyphylaxis), therefore, after 5–7 days of use, it is recommended to take a break for several days.

Contraindications
– hypersensitivity to naphazoline or any of the excipients,
arterial hypertension,
severe atherosclerosis,
thyrotoxicosis, severe eye diseases, including closed-angle glaucoma,
chronic rhinitis,
atrophic rhinitis,
diabetes mellitus,
tachycardia, simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and within 14 days after the end of their use,
for a solution of 0.05% – children under 2 years of age,
for a solution of 0.1% children under 15 years of age.
With caution
Ischemic heart disease (angina), prostatic hyperplasia, pheochromocytoma, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Reactions caused by the local action of the drug: irritation of the mucous membrane, reactive hyperemia, when used for more than 1 week – swelling of the mucous membrane, atrophic rhinitis.
Reactions caused by the systemic effect of the drug: nausea, headache, in some cases in predisposed patients – increased blood pressure, tachycardia.
Interaction
Should not be used simultaneously with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days after stopping their use.
Overdose
Symptoms: decreased body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure.
Treatment: symptomatic.
