Alzheimer’s disease, Concussion and other brain injuries, Acquired dementia, Alcoholism, Attention and memory disorders, Moderate to severe Alzheimer’s dementia after a stroke.

Indications

– moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.

Pharmacological effect

Adamantane derivative.

Special instructions

Prescribe with caution to patients with thyrotoxicosis, epilepsy, convulsions (including a history); simultaneous use of NMDA receptor antagonists (amantadine, ketamine, dextromethorphan). the presence of factors that increase urine pH (sudden change of diet, heavy intake of alkaline gastric buffers), severe urinary tract infections, history of myocardial infarction, heart failure functional class III-IV (NYHA classification), uncontrolled arterial hypertension, renal and liver failure.

Pregnancy

There is no data on the use of memantine in pregnant women.

Side Effects

The incidence of adverse reactions was classified as follows: very often (≥1/10), often (≥1/100, <1/10). uncommon (≥1/1000, <1/100), rare (≥1/10,000, <1/1000), very rare (<1/10,000), frequency not established (currently there are no data on the prevalence of adverse reactions).

Interaction

When used simultaneously with levodopa, dopamine receptor antagonists, and m-anticholinergic drugs, the effect of the latter may be enhanced.

Overdose

Symptoms: dizziness, tremor, agitation, drowsiness, confusion, agitation, stupor, convulsions, psychosis, aggressiveness, hallucinations, vomiting, unsteadiness of gait, diarrhea.

Recommendations for use

Therapy should be supervised by a physician experienced in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s dementia.

Storage conditions

The drug should be stored out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
