How to take, the dosage

In/m or in/v.Magnesium sulfate is used only by prescription. Doses are adjusted taking into account the therapeutic effect and the concentration of magnesium sulfate in blood serum.

In case of hypertensive crises the drug is administered slowly in an infusion or intravenously, 5-20 ml of 25% solution.

In case of convulsive syndrome, spastic states the drug is administered in 5-20 ml of 25% solution in combination with anxiolytics which have a pronounced central myorelaxant effect.

In acute poisonings with mercury, arsenic, tetraethyl lead are administered by 5-10 ml of 5-10% solution of magnesium sulfate in vivo.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug;

AV blockade;

Arterial hypotension;

Conditions accompanied by calcium deficiency, depressed respiratory center.

Overdose

Symptoms:possible respiratory depression, depression of CNS functions, up to the development of narcosis.

Treatment:Calcium preparations – calcium chloride or calcium gluconate are used as an antidote in magnesium sulfate overdose.
