Pharmacotherapeutic group
Antibiotic
ATX code: D06AX02
Pharmacological Action
The active ingredient of the drug is chloramphenicol – a broad spectrum antibiotic with high antibacterial activity against pathogens of wound infection and various forms of pyo-inflammatory processes. Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that disrupts protein synthesis in a microbial cell (it has good lipophilicity, penetrates through the cell membrane of bacteria and reversibly binds to the substance 50S of bacterial ribosomes, where amino acid transfer to the growing peptide chains is delayed, which leads to disruption of protein synthesis). Active against most strains of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms resistant to penicillin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides. It promotes cleansing and healing of burn wounds and trophic ulcers, accelerates epithelialization. Resistance of microorganisms to chloramphenicol develops relatively slowly.
Indications
Bacterial skin infections caused by sensitive microorganisms, incl. infected burns (superficial and limited deep), bedsores, trophic ulcers, boils

Special instructions
During treatment, systematic monitoring of peripheral blood patterns is necessary. When taking ethanol simultaneously, disulfiram-like reactions may develop (skin hyperemia, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, convulsions). Use the drug only according to the indications, method of administration and in the doses indicated in the instructions.
Active ingredient
Chloramphenicol
Composition
Active ingredient:
Chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol) – 3 g
Excipient:
Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) 70% – up to 100 ml
Pregnancy
The use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is contraindicated.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance, suppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis, acute intermittent porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, liver, kidney failure, skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections), neonatal period (up to 4 weeks)
With caution Early childhood, previous treatment with cytotoxic drugs or radiation therapy
Side Effects
Allergic reactions: skin rash, angioedema.
From the hematopoietic organs: rarely – thrombocytopenia, erythropenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, reticulocytopenia, leukopenia, granulocytopenia. If any of the side effects indicated in the instructions get worse, or you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.
Interaction
When used simultaneously with erythromycin, clindamycin, lincomycin, a mutual weakening of the effect is observed due to the fact that chloramphenicol can displace these drugs from the bound state or prevent their binding to the substance of 50S bacterial ribosomes. Reduces the antibacterial effect of penicillins and cephalosporins. If you are using the above or other medications (including over-the-counter medications), consult your doctor before using the drug.
Overdose
To date, no cases of drug overdose have been registered.
