Corneal protector. The drug stimulates the regeneration processes.
The active ingredient of Corneregel is dexpanthenol/panthenol, a precursor of pantothenic acid which, therefore, has all the same biological properties as D-pantothenic acid, which, having transformed in the human body into coenzyme A, is involved in many metabolic processes.
Data obtained in animal experiments demonstrate an increase in fibroblast proliferation and a regenerating effect. When applied topically, dexpanthenol is able to compensate for the increased demand of damaged skin or mucous membranes for pantothenic acid.
The eye gel is highly viscous, which allows prolonged contact of dexpanthenol with the surface of the mucosa.
Pharmacokinetics
Tritium-labeled dexpanthenol has been shown to be absorbed through the skin.In order to increase time of contact of dexpanthenol aqueous solution with corneal epithelium Corner gel contains carbomer which due to its high molecular weight does not get into the eyeball tissue and is not absorbed into the systemic blood flow.
Indications
Treatment of non-inflammatory keratopathy, for example, such as corneal dystrophy, recurrent erosions, corneal lesions when wearing contact lenses;
as an adjuvant therapy to stimulate the healing process of the cornea and conjunctiva in case of injuries and burns (chemical and thermal);
as an adjuvant in the treatment of infectious lesions of the cornea of bacterial, viral or fungal origin.
Pharmacological effect
The active ingredient of the drug Korneregel is dexpanthenol/panthenol – a precursor of pantothenic acid, which, thus, has all the same biological properties as D-pantothenic acid, which, having turned into coenzyme A in the human body, is involved in many metabolic processes.
Data obtained in animal experiments indicate an increase in the proliferation of fibroblasts and the presence of a regenerating effect. When used externally, dexpanthenol is able to replenish the increased need of damaged skin or mucous membranes for pantothenic acid.
The eye gel has a high viscosity, which allows for long-term contact of dexpanthenol with the surface of the mucous membrane of the eye.
Special instructions
Korneregel should not be used as monotherapy for infectious corneal lesions of bacterial, viral or fungal origin.
The preservative cetrimide, which is part of the drug, with prolonged or too frequent use can cause local eye irritation, allergic reactions (burning, redness, sensation of a foreign body in the eye) and damage to the corneal epithelium.
During treatment with Korneregel, wearing contact lenses is not recommended due to possible incompatibility of the drug with the lens material. However, if contact lenses are still indicated, before using the drug Korneregel they should be removed and reinserted no earlier than 15 minutes after instillation of the drug.
Do not touch the tip of the tube pipette to your eye.
The tube must be closed after each use.
If there is no improvement in the condition and signs of eye irritation appear, the patient should stop using the drug and consult a doctor.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and machinery
After instillation of the drug, a thin film forms on the cornea, which can cause short-term blurred vision, thereby reducing the reaction rate. Therefore, you should start driving vehicles and machinery when clarity of vision is restored.
Active ingredient
Dexpanthenol
Composition
Eye gel 5% transparent or slightly opalescent, colorless, easily flowable.
1 g dexpanthenol 50 mg
Excipients:
cetrimide – 0.1 mg,
disodium edetate – 0.1 mg,
carbomer – 0.1 mg,
sodium hydroxide – 1.01 mg,
water d/i – 945.79 mg.
Pregnancy
There are no data on the effects of pantothenic acid taken orally on pregnancy and fetal development or the health of the newborn. However, it is known that when taken orally, pantothenic acid, into which dexpanthenol is metabolized, freely penetrates the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk in proportion to the amount of the drug taken.
Experimental studies in animals following oral administration of pantothenic acid did not reveal evidence of teratogenic or embryotoxic effects.
Since there are no data on the concentration of dexpanthenol (pantothenic acid) in the blood plasma after topical application in the form of an eye gel, the use of Korneregel during pregnancy and/or breastfeeding is possible only after consultation with a doctor, when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and/or child.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
The drug should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding (no clinical data available).
Side Effects
The frequency of adverse reactions was assessed in accordance with the MedDRA classification of systems and organs as follows: very often (≥1/10), often (≥1/100, <1/10), uncommon (≥1/1000, <1/100), rarely (≥1/10000, <1/1000), very rare (<1/10000), frequency unknown (frequency cannot be determined from available data).
From the immune system: very rarely – hypersensitivity (itching, skin rashes).
From the organ of vision: frequency unknown – eye irritation (for example, hyperemia, swelling of the conjunctiva, pain, itching, foreign body sensation, increased lacrimation, transient blurred vision).
Interaction
In cases where additional local therapy with eye drops/ointments is carried out, the interval between the administration of Korneregel and other ophthalmic drugs should be at least 15 minutes.
Due to its physical properties, the drug Korneregel can prolong the residence time of other ophthalmic drugs in the eye and, thereby, enhance their effect. Therefore, Korneregel should be used last.
Overdose
There are no data on overdose of the drug Korneregel.
