Heparin ointment is a direct-acting anticoagulant. Gradually released from the ointment heparin reduces inflammation and has an antithrombotic effect.
Promotes the resorption of existing clots and prevents the formation of new ones. It blocks the synthesis of thrombin and decreases platelet aggregation. Inhibits the activity of hyaluronidase and activates the fibrinolytic properties of the blood.
Nicotinic acid benzyl ester dilates surface vessels, promoting absorption of heparin.
The local anesthetic benzocaine reduces the severity of pain. When applied to the skin it has a local analgesic effect.

The ointment is applied in a thin layer to the affected area (at the rate of 0.5-1 g per area 3-5 cm in diameter) and the ointment is gently rubbed into the skin.
In case of thrombosis of external hemorrhoidal nodes, the ointment is applied on a pad which is placed directly on the thrombosed nodes and fixed. For the same purpose, a tampon soaked in heparin ointment can be used, which is inserted into the anus.
The ointment is used 2-3 times a day daily until the disappearance of inflammation, on average 3 to 7 days. The possibility of a longer course of treatment is determined by the doctor.
