Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Glycine is an essential amino acid, a central inhibitory neurotransmitter: improves metabolic processes in brain tissues; has antidepressant and sedative effects; has glycinergic and GABA-ergic, alpha1-adrenoblocking, antioxidant and antitoxic effects; regulates the activity of glutamate (NMDA) receptors, due to which it reduces psychoemotional tension, aggressiveness and conflict; it improves social adaptation and mood; facilitates falling asleep and normalizes sleep; increases mental performance; reduces the severity of vegetative-vascular disorders (including in menopause) and cerebral disorders in ischemic stroke and craniocerebral trauma; reduces the toxic effects of ethanol on the central nervous system.

Pharmacokinetics

Easy penetration into most body fluids and tissues, including the brain, does not cumulate. It is rapidly degraded in the liver by glycinoxidase to water and carbon dioxide.

Indications

• Stress conditions (including psycho-emotional tension)
• decreased mental performance
• deviant forms of behavior in children and adolescents
• .Various functional and organic diseases of the nervous system, accompanied by increased excitability, emotional instability, reduced mental performance and sleep disorders: neurosis, neurosis-like conditions, vegetovascular dystonia, consequences of neuroinfections and brain injury, perinatal and other forms of encephalopathies (including alcoholic genesis);
• ischemic stroke.

In narcology glycine is used as a drug that increases mental performance and reduces psycho-emotional tension in remission in cases of encephalopathy and organic lesions of the central and peripheral nervous system.

How to take, the dosage

Sublingually (under the tongue) or transbuccally (in the cheek) 100 mg (in tablet form or as powder after crushing the tablet).

• Children, adolescents and adults with psycho-emotional tension, reduced memory, attention, mental performance, mental retardation, deviant forms of behavior Glycine is prescribed 1 tablet 2-3 times daily for 14-30 days.
• Functional and organic lesions of the nervous system, accompanied by increased excitability, emotional lability and sleep disorders:

Children over 3 years and adults are prescribed 1 tablet 2-3 times a day, for 7-14 days. The course of treatment can be increased up to 30 days, if necessary the course is repeated after 30 days.

• With sleep disorders glycine is prescribed 20 minutes before bedtime or immediately before bedtime 1 tablet (depending on age).
• In ischemic brain stroke during the first 3-6 hours of stroke development, 1000 mg (10 tablets) is prescribed transbuccally or sublingually with one teaspoon of water, then for 1-5 days at 1000 mg/day (10 tablets each), then for the next 30 days at 1-2 tablets 3 times daily.
• In addiction medicine Glycine is prescribed 1 tablet 2-3 times a day for 14-30 days.

If necessary, courses are repeated 4-6 times a year.

Interaction

It reduces the severity of side effects of antipsychotic drugs (neuroleptics), anxiolytics, antidepressants, sleeping pills and anticonvulsants.

Special Instructions

In patients with a tendency to arterial hypotension, the prescription is made in smaller doses and with blood pressure control. If the blood pressure decreases below the usual level, glycine should be discontinued.

Impact on driving, operating machinery

When taking the drug, caution should be exercised while driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.

Synopsis

Round flat cylindrical white or almost white beveled tablets. The presence of marbling is allowed.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to glycine and/or other components of the drug.

With caution

Arterial hypotension.

Side effects

Allergic reactions, drowsiness.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been described.

Pregnancy use

The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, due to the lack of sufficient data on the safety of the drug during this period.
