A broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the group of nitrofurans. Resistance to furazidine develops slowly and does not reach a high degree. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbes, pathogenic strains of Staphylococcus spp. and other microorganisms resistant to antibiotics.

It is effective against Gram-positive cocci (streptococci, staphylococci), Gram-negative bacilli (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Protea, Klebsiella, Enterobacteriaceae), protozoa (giardia). Furazidine is more active against staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Aerobacter aerogenes, Bacterium citrovorum, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus morganii compared to other nitrufurans. Furazidine shows higher activity against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus spp. compared to other groups of antimicrobials.

Against most bacteria the bacteriostatic concentration is 1:100000 to 1:200000. The bactericidal concentration is about twice as high. Under the influence of nitrofurans in microorganisms, the respiratory chain and the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Krebs cycle) are suppressed, as well as inhibition of other biochemical processes of microorganisms, resulting in destruction of their shell or cytoplasmic membrane.

As a result of the action of nitrofurans, microorganisms release fewer toxins, so that improvement of the general state is possible even before a pronounced suppression of microflora growth. Nitrofurans, unlike many other antimicrobial agents, not only do not suppress the immune system of the body, but on the contrary, they activate it (increase complement titre and the ability of leukocytes to phagocytize microorganisms). In therapeutic doses nitrofurans stimulate leukopoiesis.

Inflammation of the female genitalia, Urethritis

Urogenital infections (acute cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis); gynecological infections; skin and soft tissue infections; severe infected burns; for preventive purposes during urological operations (including cystoscopy, catheterization).
